This is a case that will be argued for years. The evidence is really weak.

Some chick from Seattle who allegedly killed (is convicted for killing) her British roommate in Italy... Doesn't anyone follow the news?

I have no doubt she's guilty. What were her and her bf thinking? Hey, let's help a transient rape my roommate? Then hey, I'll randomly stab her. Why not? That chick deserves to rot in hell. She doesn't even have a defense.

I haven't followed this case the whole time, but it looks like the evidence was very weak. Knox's DNA was on the handle of the kitchen knife? Big deal...they were roommates. I'm not sure about you, but i bet my DNA is on every knife in my kitchen...

While I won't come out and say that she's definitely not guilty (since I didn't see the evidence in person, nor was I involved in the interviews.....and gosh, I'm not a police detective either), I will say that just about every news story I read about this case says that the prosecutor had very flimsy, circumstantial evidence, the knife presented as the murder weapon didn't match the wounds, and the DNA evidence they had was pitiful.

That being said, I believe the jury convicted her more on emotions than evidence. Here in the states, I doubt she would have been convicted, and if she was, it'd be overturned on appeal. With the somewhat screwy (long-winded) Italian justice system, there's no telling.......but I wouldn't be surprised if she's released after appealing.

in case you didn't know, fingerprints /= DNA.

blood and semen are just about the only reliable sources for DNA when it comes to forensics investigation.

it is so incredibly difficult to extract DNA from hair that you shouldn't consider it. You need a follicle (so it isn't really from the hair), and a single fiber produces a very small amount.

That's for certain. I've paid virtually no attention to the case until today. I'm surprised she was convicted based on what I've heard.

What really blew me away was that there were fingerprints of various individuals all over the crime scene. None belonged to her. The prosecution said she wiped her prints away. Pretty absurd if you think about it. How a jury could overlook that is a mystery to me.

Then again, OJ was acquitted.

I extract DNA from the blood of the innocent all the time. You know why? I'll tell you why. It's so that I can grow a clone and torture and kill it in front of the original. There is nothing more satisfying than killing someone twice. Everyone knows this.

From the CNN link:

Prosecutors argued Seattle, Washington native Amanda Knox was a resentful American so angry with her British roommate that she exacted revenge during a twisted sex misadventure at their home two years ago.

What exactly do they mean by 'resentful American'?

More like raped by guards. This would suck if she's innocent, as I can't tell either way. Verdicts on circumstantial evidence is pretty lame.
