Wow, 7up tastes like junk now.

Not sure what they did - 7up never really held a candle to Sprite or Sierra Mist, but this is the first time I've had it in a long time. The can touts "100% Natural Flavors" (aside from the High Fructose Corn Syrup)... but it tastes nasty. It's basically a watered down club soda and has an aftertaste of Aspartame now (even though it doesn't have any - YUK!).

Edited Title: Apparently the mods don't think highly of equine derivatives.

As much as I love the word innuendo... my head hurts. I'll come out quietly with my hands up. 🙂

You start a lot of threads complaining about beverages. I wouldn't remember, except I always note the irony of a user called SunnyD saying "x beverage is gross."

HFCS is just the sugar extract from corn, it's definitely natural, just like standard corn syrup.

I love myself some Squirt too. Sometimes I rush home because I just can't wait to crack a Squirt open and guzzle its smooth, refreshing flavor down my parched throat. Uhmg UH! UH!

I do?

If I've posted anything about a beverage, it sure has been a long time (just checked my history and don't see anything beverage related).

Squirt > all citrus sodas

😎
I have a bottle at home right now... mostly just used to mix with vodka, though.

Whatever you say, Dr/Mr Pepper/Pibb.

People's knee-jerk reaction to HFCS is pretty pathetic. HFCS is more natural than the "natural" flavors they put in the soda, and ultimately they both usually come from the same place.

7UP hasn't been cool since the animated "red spot" commercials in the 90s! 😉

I thought Sprite had pretty much crushed its popularity...

On the contrary, there is a distinct difference in flavor between HFCS and sugar.

Sure it's Wikipedia, but here's the snippet:

High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is any of a group of corn syrups which have undergone enzymatic processing in order to increase their fructose content and are then mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to reach their final form. The typical types of HFCS are: HFCS 90 (used almost exclusively in the production of HFCS 55) which is approximately 90% fructose and 10% glucose; HFCS 55 (most commonly used in soft drinks) which is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose; and HFCS 42 (used in a variety of other foods, including baked goods) which is approximately 42% fructose and 58% glucose.[1] HFCS is generally made from transgenic (genetically modified) corn.

Hardly "natural" if you ask me. Of course I've had this discussion with my wife several times, and one can conclude that any synthetic item is actually natural, because hey - synthetics are all made from natural atoms!

Why do you think they call natural flavors natural? Because they found them growing on trees? Your high school science alarmism is quite precious.

I'd hardly call it natural. Corn syrup treated with enzymes to adjust the glucose/fructose ratio doesn't occur anywhere in nature.

edit: to me, something can be called natural if it can be found existing in nature, or if it is a concentrated (eg. let the water evaporate out of it, or heat it) version of something found in nature, like maple syrup. Not the sugary crap like Aunt Jemima or whatever, but real maple syrup.
