Wow...2 computers at hotel with entire C drive shared.

I'm up in Green Bay, for the game this weekend. The hotel rooms have free high-speed internet, and I decided to browse around for a little bit. The instructions on the desk tell you to TURN OFF YOUR PERSONAL FIREWALL!!! First, uhhh, no. Second, there are 2 machines with their C drive shared. One guy is a saleman for some sort of banking product, and the other looks like a family computer.

Would it be bad to place a notepad doc on their desktop to warn them about sharing their C drive, or should I just pretend I never saw it?

I just put a not on their desk, to have them call my room about how to not lose their data. Got one call, very quickly. 🙂

I'd leave it alone, you never know what they'll say if they find out you've been nosing around. I'd just as well avoid any possible legal issues that might arise out of this.

they'll just report you for hacking into their computer.

Do you know which company this salesguy works for? If so, send an anonymous email to the company and report his ass and the get their IT to have a more strict policy.

You may be thought to have seen something you shouldnt have, ala "I know what you downloaded last summer"

I would strongly advise against identifying yourself.

Hehe, yeah it would likely be better off to not say anything, since the people may be too dumb to realize you are trying to help.

So what did you tell the person who called you?
"Oh Shit! Don't Shoot!"

😀

I just explained to the person how to unshare his C drive. He was very appreciative for the help. He is running Windows 98, so I told him about getting Zone Alarm as an extra precaution.

Sucks, though. Packers lost. Blew some big plays, and the refs were horrible. 🙁
