WOW! 10+ degree improovement with blowholes!

My tbird 1ghz@1070 had been running at 116-118 degrees full load. I installed 2 fans in the side panal so they blew right down onto the HSF. It took over an hour and one exotic drill bit, to make the holes, but the improvement is AMAZING. The case temp is 5-10 degrees cooler, and the cpu temperature is 105-109. The only way i had ever seen lower than that was with the cover off and a big "vornado" fan blowing onto the MB. I am planning on making a paper "funnel" to force the air from one of the blow holes onto the the HSF. The HSF is an alpha pal6035 with the sunon fan, blowing air down onto the heatsink. Think this is a good idea or no?

Good gain, but just to let you know, if your'e getting a 5-10C case temp drop, the cpu temp drop is likely around the same, wtih any extra differences due to airflow effecting socket-thermistor readings.

A duct might help some. But do you really think all the extra heat the processor is giving off is worth the 70Mhz gain? Those temps seem to be dangerously high! Also, consider making a blowhole in the top of the case to remove hot air, by blowing outwards.

I agree with sparkle, a blow hole at the top of your case will do wonders getting all that hot air out of the top of your case.

well... note that the 1070 is the higest i can get it only because i havenbt managed to unlock my cpu and am unable to get the FSB stable any higher.
I am rather surprised to hear that 109 is a high temperature. What else could i do to get it lower? A blowhole in the top wouldnt do much good, becasue the air in the top part of the case is nice and cool (there isnt much room for air to move from the bottom part fo the case to the top - its a full tower case with a poorly positioned PSU)
but the casetemp isnt really that high... Unless 70degrees is too high a case temp... Also note that i am using an A7V which i have heard reports higher temps than most. What would you folks recomend to get it cooler?

Built an AIR Duct around the H/S out of poster board. :0 It lowered my "measured" CPU temps by 6 degrees F.

Need Help! Recently Built new system: T/B 1.2 GHz - A7V133 M/b - Lian Li Alluminium Case with three case fans. Initially used a FOP 32-1 HSF and CPU temp. was up around 60 deg C. Just installed a FOP 38 but only got a 3 deg. temp. drop. (not justifiable for the huge noise increase).

According to the Asus probe monitor: CPU temp. is 57 deg. C. and M/B temp. is 34 deg. C.
This seems way too high. Even with case cover off there is no difference.Using Unick silicon heat transfer compound.

Would appreciate any Help!!!

57C is high as heck! i would look into it and make sure the hs is mounted properly on the chip as well as check to see if your probe is working right. at that temp you can probably touch the hs and see if its extremely hot, if its really at that temp, you can probably tell.

Mounting is A-OK - Fine-sanded heat sink base and checked for even level prior to mounting. Clips are tight, no movement.
Tried the finger thermometer as suggested. Guess what? Temp feels about 40 degC. or less.
Must be the crappy Asus Probe utility giving a false reading.
Had me worried there for a sec. considering there are a total of 8 fans running.

Anybody know where I can get a pair of cheap earmuffs?

When I turn on my case fans my my case temp drops over 10 C but my CPU only drops like 1-2 C.

you think 57 is high, my computer is running at 58 right now with no load. im trying toget some extra cash to buy either the lian li or coolermaster 201 case and then a new HSF because when i am watching a dvd about half way through my coumputer is CRZY hot dont rember exact number but i do know that the asus probe comes and and rudely interupts my movie to spare my computers life

Roscon,

On an A7V class mb, wtih PCProbe giving you temps, 50+C temps are normal. Do not worry about temps you see online from other mbs, especially MSI boards, which are on the oppposite spectrum of socket-a temp readings, they read extremely low. Just a few quick questions: What is your mb temp? What A7V133 bios are you using?

SuperKen,

You've probably gone past the "point of no return" for cooling. But if your case temp only drops 5C, your cpu temp can't drop more than that.

Uh, could you explain to me what you mean about going "past the point of no return on cooling"?

Thanks.

As in your heatsink is already getting enough "fresh" air, and the excess fresh air is not aiding in its cooling of the cpu,

or

Depending on where you are measuring case temp, you may or may not be getting the air to reach the heatsink.
