Wouldn't you call this unethical behaviour?

They probably check only the SKU and can't be bothered or are unable to check the serial against their records.

actually you dont need a receipt. me and my freind did a scam like this a while back, only it was with video games. you'd be suprised how many cashiers dont really care if you have a receipt or not and give you cash back. you just need to know how to ask for it.

and no i'm not going to sit here and say it IS ethical. I knew it wasnt ethical when i was doing it, i just didn't care.

Let's put it this way: I can get this camera for $200 because I work at the company. I buy 10 of them for $200, and return that $2k worth of cameras for $9k in Bestbuy store credit. I've just made $7k from bestbuy, and they've essentially paid $900/camera, when their normal cost might be, let's say $600. I've ROBBED them $300/camera. That's not illegal?

Too specific of an example. I'm sure there is some sort of competition clause in your employment contract that would cover such situations.
Or an abuse of employee privileges clause.

Unethical for a consumer? Depends on your point of view. Illegal, hardly. It could be seen as a shrewd business deal that he has every right to participate in. I hope you don't feel sorry for corporations, or feel they should get as even handed a deal as you.

What? Of course it is unethical. He's not going to volunteer the information, but his intent is to rip off BB or wherever. The store managers only agree because you tell them that you bought it there and lost the receipt or that it was a gift bought from there and you can't get the receipt.

The intent the profit is also unethical...

want an easy way to prove this? Have your friend go through with the scam, receive the credit/money THEN tell the store manager at best buy that you didn't buy it from them. See what they do. It's called fraud.

but he doesnt realize that electonics drop in prices pretty fast. I bet that camera will sell for less after christmas.
