Actually, I find it shocking that there would be a beach in such a spot. there were probably limited number of spots they could build an airport on that island, whereas they wouldn't have any shortage of beaches.

It's actually not very safe. I have video of a 747 taking off on that same runway (in the same direction they land), and blasting people from the beach into the water.
