Wouldn't it be tight if the new iPod can play/store mp3's as well as data storage?

I think Apple would make a lot of money by doing this. Heck, I would buy one if it had this function.

The iPods do work like an external hard drive. I read a new article about people going into apple sotres, attaching the iPods and stealing software and stuff like that,

Maybe in a few years... IMHO Apple will turn the iPod into a fully-functional pda.

Come on, it's a portable music player. That's the problem with PocketPCs, they try to do everything. I am already annoyed that they put the PDA stuff in the new iPod firmware.

But the problem is that no EVERYONE has a firewire port. Now if they made it where it shares USB AND Firewire (IEEE 1394) ports, then that would be the bomb.

i guess what i meant was a more multimedia device. cuase $299-399 for *just* a mp3 player just doesn't seem worth it to me ;)

Well, since every Mac for the past 5 years has come with Firewire, that is why it is used. USB 1.1 would way entirely to slow to transfer 5/10/20GB of data.

PC firewire cards are cheap. A lot of motherboard makers are including it nowadays.

Everyone should have a firewire port. Could you imagine transferring 5 or 10GB of mp3s via USB. **shudder**

Yes, I've done it with my Archos Jukebox. Needless to say I no longer own it. Need the USB 2.0 model if anything...

After reading some technical data on the transfer rates of Firewire and USB, we obviously know Firewire is the bomb. They are also making a Firewire upgrade (IEEE 1394b). It transfers up to 800 mbps! It says that if can transfer a whole CD in seconds! =) Me likes.
