Wouldn?t it be nice if Nintendo made games for the PC.

I think it would be great if they got out of the hardware part of their business and just made games for the PC.

I?m not sure how the GC is selling but I don?t think its doing as well as the Playstation or the Xbox.

I just finished watching an F-Zero movie and thought Dam that?s sweet, if only other software companies spent that much time and money as Nintendo did on the game development the PC would rock as a gaming platform.

That being said I do believe there are some killer games on the PC, I just think it could be much better.

What do you guys think?

Emulators are legal. Last I heard if you didn't own the game, you had to delete it within 24 hours of downloading it. Some type of honor code "Try-before-you-buy" I guess.

Anyway, it's no different than trudging to your local store to "try out" the new consoles. For hours. Every day.

gaming is much bigger on consoles than it is on PC
also PC games are pirated up the wazoo so the profit margins on games are much higher for consoles

Other problems are minimum requirements. If you make the game too flashy, you run the risk of it not selling well b/c the minimum requirements are too fast.

When you are developing for a console, if it works on one guy's console, it will work on everyone's console. One of the reasons I LOVE console gaming is b/c I don't have to ever mess around with drivers, or incompatibilities. Put the game in the console, switch it on, have fun.
I rarely even bother with PC games anymore. Too much trouble.

I never understood how a single game is released on multiple platforms. Does an independent software developer make it and resell it? Do companies like nintendo and playstation actually make the games that play on their consoles?

This has never been true. I don't know what idiot came up with it in the first place, or why it got spread around so much, but there are no time limits for pirating software. You either have an illegal copy of software or you dont.

I dunno, when I think of my fondest memories of console gaming, I don't think a PC could ever do that for me...sitting in the living room, in front of the TV, friends all around, numerous controllers...never worrying about slowdown/lag or if your system is up to date...

I mean, we can all put a computer in our living room, not a big deal anymore, but it just wouldn't be the same for me. 🙂 (Looks a little past his monitor to his TV and Nintendo setup...)

Nintendo and Sony do make their own games, but there are also third-party companies liek CAPCOM that make the games as well. Ports from one console to another are sometimes done by yet another third-party.

I'll agree with you for the moment, as I respect your opinions as being founded on something other than air. However, I'm pretty sure I've read this in the copyright somewhere. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Consoles have first, second, and third party developers.

First party games come from the console company itself. For example, the Mario and Zelda games were developed by Nintendo and will always be Nintendo exclusive.

Second party companies are owned wholly or partly by a console manufacturer and are bound to develop games exclusively for the one console. Rare is probably the most well known second party developer. Nintendo owned controlling interest in Rare stock and kept their games as Nintendo exclusive, until last year when Microsoft purchased all of Rare (including the Nintendo-owned stock) making them a second party exclusive for the Xbox. There are exceptions to this rule - I believe Factor5 is an independent development house that chooses to develop exclusively for Nintendo.

Third party developers are completely independent and are free to manufacturer games for whichever console they choose. Most cross-platform games are developed by third parties. Sega, EA, and Ubi Soft are a few notable third-party companies. They are responsible for porting their own games to each respective console.

I wish Nintendo would release a Nintendo Classics edition Cd with ALL Nintendo and Super Nintendo games and emulators for the PC.

I came up with this post after watching nintendo movies like F-Zero and thinking dam it would be nice to have racing games of that level on the pc.

I guess it was just wishful thinking😀

You realize that XBox is an ibm-compatible motherboard with celeron, hard drive, usb controllers, and a stripped down NT kernel?
