Agree with thuned, but RAM and HD are relatively easy to upgrade. Of more concern is xga display (1024x768); unless you specifically prefer that lower resolution, I would definitely recommend sxga+ (1400x1050).
 
I dont know where you are educating but for me a dvd drive was a huge difference when I was traveling in summers and doing quarter abroad programs. And if you travel by plane to school.

You might want G just because educational 'file transfers' can be mighty helped by some more speed 😉

Why do you want XP Pro? you could upgrade something else for that cost.

Get as little ram as possible and check on 3rd party ram prices.

You want more than 20Gb. Just spent 4 months away from home and 20gb was absolutley too little. I had to tote around dvd-r s of all my music.
