Ok so the company I work for was off Monday due to Presidents day. I ended up working 2.5 hours late on Tuesday but since I have to work 40 hours to get overtime it will be regular pay.

Would you work a full day tomorrow and take the extra regular pay or ask off 2.5 hours early?

I always take the overtime, and that's what this is. Paid for your time over normal.

the 2.5 hours won't be overtime because the holiday does not count towards 40 working hours. The 2.5 will be paid as regular time.

Some supervisors frown on people that take off / ask off on fridays.

Monday and friday are the 2 days I never suggest anyone ask to leave early, or call in sick, unless you just have to. Just work your regular shift and get off when your supposed to.

IMO asking to get off early is something a slacker would do. I don't want people at work thinking I'm a slacker.

Probably work, unless there's something compelling you can do with 2.5 hours. You're already at work, so your day's shot. You might as well stay and make a couple bucks, even if it's only straight time.

Well I frown on my supervisors blocking every website which gives me nothing to do while imaging computers and waiting for problems to come up.

There is only so much I can read on ATOT before I go crazy in a day.

Threads like this help me realize how lucky I am setting my schedule. Guys here come in anything from 5:30-8:30 AM and leave from 4-6pm. You can work 4 10s, 5 8s, 4 9s and a 4, or anything in between

Then quit. I'm sure there are plenty of out-of-work individuals with skills that exceed yours who would be happy to put up with that AND work full days at every opportunity.

Wow. They don't count holidays for the 40 hours. Where I work they count holidays, planned vacation and personal time towards the 40 hours before OT.

Of course it doesn't count if you call out.

I would just work it anyway.

Come on. Any IT guy worth a damn either:

1) Has a smartphone or iPad with them that has unrestricted 3G wireless internet access, OR
2) Knows how to bypass the content blocks without getting caught.

Hell, I have both options available to me where I work, and I'm not even in the IT department.
