I just had my interview with Microsoft last friday and I'm supposed to hear back next week on whether I'll be offered a position. So I was just wondering how many people would take the job if it was offered to them? The job would be as an Intern Project Manager. Here are a few of the benefits:

Subsidized housing,
Shipping assistance,
Subsidized car rental,
Bike purchase plan,
Free bus pass,
Health club membership,
Free beverages,
Free clothing,
Software discounts,
Free house-cleaning,
Regular salary

I've never lived in or around Seattle, nor have I ever worked for Microsoft. Not sure if anyone lives there, or works for Microsoft, so I'm just trying to see what people think. I've heard Seattle is freakin way expensive to live in, so I'm a little concerned about being able to afford living there as a single-income family.

And ideas or suggestions?
 
of course. I'd do anything for them short of be a janitor or a secretary. That would look amazing on a resume. My feelings about them would be irrelevant. I have mercenary morals.
 
my roommate from college works at msft finance and they pay very very well for corporate finance / accting so i would be happy to work for msft in the future
 
you don't have to live in redmond. well if you are using the subsidized housing you might

Most of the people I've talked to said they've never worked more than 45 hours in a week. Maybe that's why Vista keeps being pushed back.

I would really like to work for them, as I've heard many of the same types of things people have presented. Just wondering if anyone has any direct experiences with them.
 
I'd definitely work there. I've heard some great things about the corporate culture and how it's driven by ideas and ability. It's long hours and it definitely won't be slow, and the actual pay is only slightly above average, but the perks are supposed to be great, and the people I've met who have worked there before all seem to have good things to say about the place and would gladly go back if they got the right offer.

As far as Seattle, well, I like it. Seattle's not much more expensive than Pittsburgh was. The housing market is definitely expensive, but it's not out of line with demand in the area and houses have continued to appreciate so you shouldn't have trouble getting more than you paid if you sell it.

BTW, how are you enjoying project management? It's a field that I want to get into in time. Currently going for a BA position sometime in the next year and hopefully a PM position before 5 years are up.

Anybody here currently working for them? It'd be nice to hear from someone who has personal experience in the matter.

No, I didn't get it through networking.

The reason I ask is because I've checked housing prices in the area and haven't found very much for a family of 6 for under 400K, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong neighborhood. But with this in mind, and a single-income family, it would be hard to take the job if I didn't know that it would be worth it. I can't imagine a starting salary of 100K, so buying a house would be difficult. This is why I wanted peoples feelings on this, both from people who work there, as well as people who simply live around Seattle and could give me a truely accruate idea of the cost of living.

Considering the fact that my strongest skills are in Unix and PHP. I doubt I have anything to offer Microsoft.

If you don't mind me asking, what where your reasons? Did they not pay enough? Was the neighborhood too expensive? Or did you just simply not want to work for them?

I understand if you don't want to answer, I'm just trying to get a feel for the place.
 
Hell yeah, I'd work for them. Whether you hate the company or not, you'd be dumb not to work for them if they offered you a reasonable compensation. Their benefits are pretty good and i'd love to get in on their employee stocks program.
