Would you wait to buy DDR or buy PC133 SDRAM now while its cheap?

Im mulling over whether I should get a 256 mb stick of Crucial PC133 RAM or wait for a while and buy PC2100 DDR RAM for my new system. I wont be actually putting it together til around June, but Im debating getting the ram now while its cheap. Ive read Anand's article about how the ddr fsb kt133a almost equals a ddr ram system, but if pc2100 ddr ram prices fall by summer (if they turn up in the first place)and there are stable ddr ram mobos, it might be worth the wait.

Do you think that we will be able to find pc2100 ddr ram for a reasonable price and also stable ddr mobos by early summer (think June)?

all test shows ddr is like rambus but not the price... it isn't faster in both AMD/Intel systems.. but price is similar to PC133 SDRAM.. depends on if u have mobo or not ..

I would get PC133 SDRAM now and wait until there r mobo's out which have been fully tested and reviews r available.

It is cheap at the moment. Just paid £81.89 for 256MB of PC133 SDRAM Cas2 7.5ns Crucial. I remember when it was £40 for 1MB EDO and it wasn't that long ago.

😉

I have a personal policy of never buying the latest and greatest. It's like buying a new model of a car. I'll wait until ddr mobo's are a little more seasoned before I jump in.

I'm waiting for PC2100 DDR from Micron hopefully they will produce enough to meet the market demand in the next few weeks.

Finality, Micron(Crucial) has been producing PC2100 for months. They are not selling it by itself though. They're using all of it that they can produce in their MicronPC division. They make much more money selling the entire computer with PC2100, then selling the individual modules. They'll sell PC2100 modules to the public when they have more than enough to cover the demand for their DDR PC's. That may be sometime though, as lead times for their PC2100 equipped machines are greater than a month.

Sticking with SDRAM for now. Building new machine and picked up some Crucial 256mb cas 2 for $112.00 a stick....good stuff cheap....can't beat that

You can get the PC133 now while it's really cheap and then when you build your system if DDR is cheap buy that and sell your 133 ram.

If your not building the system till' June don't buy the RAM yet. If SDRAM prices start going up then take the plunge and buy some PC133 while their cheap, otherwise just wait until June and see how DDR is doing then and then make the decision between SDRAM and DDR-SDRAM.

Just built a new machine (if you care to take a look, link is below) and put 256MB PC133 (Corsair) in it. Of coruse it was an Intel system, but I would stick with SDRAM in any platform right now.....

If you can use the ram now buy it, if your satisfied with what you have, wait. Who knows you may be dead in six months, no point in having any regrets j/k 😛
