Would you wait for GeForce MX or buy a GeForce 256 SDR now?

Getting a new video card but I can only spend around 150-175 dollars. Should I buy a Geforce 256 (The one I'm looking at is a Gigabyte 32meg SDR) or wait for the Geforce MX?

You should wait. Any GeForce 2mx will smoke that Gigabyte SDR card. Another alternative if you don't want to wait is to go to the For Sale forum here and buy a Creative Labs GeForce Pro DDR for $155 from Untamo. It will also smoke the Gigabyte SDR.
Regards, Skitzer.

I'd wait for the GeForce MX. Besides, better RAM will let you overclock it a bit further....which will really help the performance.

If it were me (and it may be soon) I would wait for the Geforce 2MX. It should be just as fast, cheaper, and what I like most is it should run cooler and uses only 4 watts of power, while the SDR is supposed to need 16 watts. I am sure that the initial wave of GF2MX cards will be priced higher, but I plan on waiting until everyone gets theirs out. I figure by the time that happens, any bugs with drivers or compatibility issues should also be resolved.
Waiting patiently, with Voodoo 3 3000 working just fine,
Chuck

I'm shamelessly an addict too. I must break 7000 or I just can't go on.....Been close many many times but not quite enough...

My vid card is a generic vanilla TNT2 from my old computer. I can hit 3000 or so with it, but that's not good enough. 😉

Don't know about the pricing in your area but here the price of an MX is closer to the DDR than the SDR. That makes the issue MX or DDR rather than MX or SDR. So it here the choice is obvious, DDR. It's not that we have cheap DDR, more like expensive MX.

Toms review should cool everyones jets over the Geforce MX. Its being released at $180 with no twin-view! Plus the Geforce SDR performs better than the MX. Plus the DDR absolutely pounds it in all benchmarks.

If the geforce 2 MX really does come in at $180 for singleview, then 3Dfx may still have a chance with its' Voodoo 4, particularly if they can release it for less than $150. As for the "bang for the buck" crown, the Geforce MX at $180 has no chance even against the Voodoo 3 3000 PCI/AGP card at around $80 after rebate or the V3 2000 at around $70 after rebate. It is possible we will see the GF2MX cards at the $120 price point, but my guess is it won't be until after Christmas, at the earliest.

Ummm, guys, the Prophet MX is list on Onvia right now for $130 single and $175 dual. May not be in stock yet, but shipment is expected next week.

Umm, SUorangeman, both are out of stock. Wait and see if they will be available for those prices. I hope they will, but I am skeptical.
