It's disturbing to hear wives need disciplining. I thought you were being sarcastic at first.

I can't believe someone voted yes to ban divorce for a woman who is being beaten by her husband or a man that took everything a woman had and ran with her to pay the bill.
I think in Jesus day, women couldn't get divorces anyway: any divorce would be the man leaving the woman, which (women had no jobs) would leave her VERY inconvenienced, likely extremely poor.

So him disagreeing with divorce on all grounds except unfaithfulness would be reasonable.

(any Jewish people or Christian scholars want to enlighten?)

I voted yes to ban divorce, 'cause I have so many friends who were hurt in such deep ways because of it.

I'm young and I don't personally know any people involved in domestic violence, so I can't include that into my decision.
When a spouse is being abused, either physically or mentally, it is not a healthy relationship and can only lead to further problems. If children are invovled, it's even more harmful as they grow up thinking yelling, beating, etc. is a normal way of life and the cycle perpetuates.

I voted "No".

Marriage and divorce is something two consenting adults should think about, the government shouldn't have a say in it, in my opinion.

Personally, I wouldn't marry someone I wasn't sure about. If divorce was even a possibility for me (*within reason) I wouldn't get married in the first place. I think it should be left to the people to decide...

* Represents the fact that you can never know someone totally, and some severe psychological problems can't be worked through, and in such a case divorce might be necessary even if you really thought you knew and could compromise with your spouse.
