Would you vote for a libertarian?

Would you vote for a libertarian? If they ran for the independent party, would you vote for them? It seems like people won't vote for a political group unless they are either democratic or republican.

no, only because they wouldn't win. therefore I vote rebuplitarian.

No way will I vote for a victocrat though.

Yes. I'd probably vote for the Communist Nazi Green Party (or whatever it's called) before I voted Republicrat.

Communist Nazi? Do you have a clue as to what you're talking about?

I'd love to see a real 3rd party but only if it was moderate.

Seems now days that the left and right are just way to far off center for my taste.

It's really stupid but there is this whole thing where people (liberals especially) don't want to vote for any party other than Democrats or Republicans because they are afraid it will siphon off votes. There are more little liberal offshoot parties than conservative. People should really vote for small parties more though. That way we can get away from the two-party system which just leads to bipartisanship.

To answer your question: No I would vote democrat, for the reason stated above. hehehe

Here in the UK it's the exact opposite - all the parties are moving to the center.

'The namby pamby treehugging solar powered bicycle brigade'...

That's what Boris Johnson (conservative MP) called the new party leader yesterday.

IIRC there really is some crazy party named that or something similar.

Whether or not thats true, Libertarian on the "political compass" is if anything a complete opposite of that.

Did I say otherwise? All I'm saying is that any other party is better than the two major parties.

IMO, the libertarian party shouldn't even be a party...just an idealogy. If a libertarian wants to get elected, they should run as a republican...and they have...and it's worked. Most people I know who claim to be "republicans", are actually much closer to libertarians...they're just too hooked on the republican party and buy all the bs, hipocrisy, and excuses they spout for not getting the government out of our hair.

Edit: And for the record, I do know of a few nanny-state republicans...but not as many.

I'm going to vote for Libertarian, Independent, Communist, etc party and refuse to vote for a Democrat or Republican in the next election. I don't care if it doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme at all. I'm tired of Repubs and Dems. I urge you all to vote the same. That is all.

I vote for whoever I like. If that happens to be a libertarian then yes. And your vote does count. If enough people start voting somewhere other than Dem/Rep eventually it will make a difference one way or another.

Definitely, I've done it before. Their ideology is closest to mine so that's who I vote for. It could make a difference in local elections.

Absolutely. The only reason third party candidates don't win is because people think they'll waste their vote by voting for them. Unless the election was close in my state I'd absolutely vote for the guy I WANT to win, not for the better of the two major party candidates.

If enough people do that, one of these days people will wake up and realize a third party candidate can win.

Locally, yes. Nationally...they haven't put any one up worth voting for. Their 2004 candidate was a loon.

No. The 'moral' component that I look for in a candidate is usually not present with a Libertarian, so I doubt I'll be voting for one any time soon.

I don't really have any options for voting right now. The way I see it, the Democrats will take us down the wrong path really fast, or the Republicans will give us rose-colored glasses for the same ride and tell us we're going somewhere different.

No, it's a stupid philosophy. It's just as looney as communism.

Why?

And yeah, I would. Sadly, my state kind of would make an issue about it really counting. I could help with the whole 5% thing though, I suppose.

They are two sides of the same coin, extremist philosophies that elevate one part of society over all others. Communists believe that the state and only the state should make the decisions for society. Libertarianism merely replaces the "state" with private business. The truth is that reality lies in between the two extremes of these world views and that wholesale adoption of either one quickly leads to problems. The state is much better at addressing some issues, while a market is often better than the state at others. I want a leader who will actually think and try to make intelligent decisions using a combination of state and market, instead of just relying on some ideology to make the decision.

Rabid ideologues are bad, mmmmmkay? Compromise is good.

If one idea could magically solve all our problems we would have adopted it already.
