Would you try to get a "Speeders License" if it were available

If there was a license available to you. That you had to pass numours test to ensure you had the "skill" to drive at high speeds safely.

I think some good starting rules would be:
1. Unlimited Speed on all highways but not in city.
2. Car must be approved by the state
3. Car must meet higher than normal regulation for tire quality and brakes and other safety gear.
4. Your hearing and vision must be approved by the state.

It should be noted that some sort of technology will be implemented so that police will not stop you for speeding if you have the license. The technology is not important here so do not let that influence you.

Interesting concept. I think everyone should go through a harder driving test anyway, and also be required to take another every 2 years after they reach 65+. But thats just my opnion. ;)

Undoubtedly. It would take a nice chunk of time out of my drive across I80 on trips to visit family.

I can see it now...people will be calling it "the Lexus License" because only "rich people" will be able to afford them.

They say the same thing now about proposals to allow people to purchase the right to drive in the HOV lane with only one person in the car - "Lexus Lanes".

Rules 2 and 4 already exist. They're called state inspection and drivers license. Number 3 exists to an extent with number 2, but not of the caliber (higher than normal) you're referring to.

Think about it......unlimited speed on the highways. How would this special license stop young, inexperienced, dumb and unlicensed drivers from going out and killing themselves on this speed freeway you're referring to? Hell, we have posted speed limits now and they still do it!!

They just need to have a few cross country major highways that dont have posted speed limits to serve as arteries for the country.

None of this special license or excessive fine bullsh!t. If they had a 6-8 lane highway running parallel to 95 up the east coast with no speed limit, and another road running from east coast to west coast, or one running from southeast to southwest, and another from northeast to northwest, and then have one that went along the west coast connecting them.

These types of roads could be made very safe with minimum speed limits, and only have exits ever 20-30 miles or so. They could even charge a ton to use them, and im sure that wouldnt stop anyone.

LOL, more than 80% of those that voted believe they have the skill to actually get the license.

Gran Turismo skills != Real Driving skills

I'd hate to see what the insurance rates are on a "speeders license" holder.

so how the hell is a cop supposed to differentiate between speed-licensed super driver going 140mph down the highway and regular-licensed "unsafe" driver going 140mph down the highway?

Let this speeding nonsense die today, already.

The implementation and execution of this idea isn't the focus of this thread. The concept is, and I think the concept is very interesting.

Although I don't think I have the skill to drive 25+ the speed limit, but I never tried either. If there is a license that warrants speeding, then I'd definitely give it a try. It'd save so much time!!

Also, crashing at freeway speed is already deadly, driving even faster wouldn't make a difference. Of course, it is riskier, but that's y we're talking about a license.

How long have you had a license? There is a huge, huge HUGE difference between trying to control and bring a vehicle to a stop at 65MPH vs 90MPH.

More than 80% of the people here drive more than 25 over the speed limit.
Example, the speed limit is 55 on Illinois rt 53 near the Schaumburg area. Between the hours of 10pm and 5am, traffic is usually pretty light. I usually cruise that at about 80 to 85 mph. I get passed by a lot of cars.
It takes no "extra skill" to go 25 over when 25 over is the speed of traffic.

It is safest to go the same speed as the flow of traffic.

If everyone is driving the same speed, then there is the lowwest chance of collision.

I just set my cruise to +5 the speed limit and let it go. I don't need or want a speeders license.

Yeah I am absolutely sure 32 people here have the skill to drive 25 over any speed limit and know when to slow down. Yeah right.

10 over on the highway, though that'll usually make it up to 15 since most everyone goes 10 over. If there is anyone else on the road speeding with me or if the road is fairly empty, it goes up to 20 over real quick. It's not that hard. And I still have time to look out for cops.
