Would you travel to Mexico right now?

With the escalating violence there is alot to worry about. But if you go to a resort town like Cancun, I dont see much to worry about except a hangover. :sun:

not really. i work in nogales often, there are constant reminders to keep yourself from the more... native areas. ive heard a lot of stuff about work trucks being jacked to use for border runs as well.

If you dont mind me asking, what do you do in Nogales? If you dont want mention it, I understand.

I've never left the US without a rifle, so probably not. I'd consider travel to a few places in europe though.

Just got back from Cancun 4 days ago. I never had much interest in travelling to Mexico, but went for extended family vacation. Did not see any violence.

a latino in the office said he's stopped taking his usual trips to mexico. he looks the part and can speak spanish just fine, but his accent marks him as a tejano so he isn't safe.

The big touristy places like Cancun, Cabo and Acapulco are okay, it's the grubby little border towns that you have to be afraid to visit.

i do work in municipal water/ wastewater. always a need for that stuff somewhere, work is still good here. im not doing work in actual nogales, but in surrounding towns. we just stay in nogales, due to hotel availability

I would be kind of worried about jumping in a Volkswagen cab in Mexico City. There is a small chance your next stop is a kidnappers hold. Its not Bogata, Columbia, however.

my dad stopped his trips there as well... his accent nails him as a native american, despite being of mexican descent. we still have family down there that visits up here tho

And now my next question ..... is it safe to drink the water now? 😉

went to mexico with my wife and kid in the summer (my wife's idea, not mine). we were in the resort most of the time though. when we went into town, the resort people copied down the taxi's id, our id and where we were going and for how long etc. coming back in to the resort same info was asked.

I heard this same thing from a female friend. She just no longer feels safe even though her mother is down in Hermosillo.

I wont go too much further past Tubac (a town ~60 miles south of Tucson, AZ towards the border) as beyond that you never know what you will drive upon. I've seen large groups moving in the desert. Border Patrol armed to the hilt at checkpoints and racing to certain areas. The militia people are equally armed. Vans/Trucks will drive past you on crappy two lane highways at 100+mph and its obvious they are hauling people or drugs. They even canceled rodeo events in Douglas (a border town of AZ and Mexico) this year because of the intense violence in the area.
