What are you talking about? MS doesnt have any effect on the frames you get. I have a 16ms LCD, and I get great frames. Depending on the game, well over 100.

Well isn't it the refresh rate thats the limiting factor, not the response time?

I thought that since most LCDs cap at 60Hz that you could usually only max 60FPS or something. Its actually pathetic how little I know about this considering I have LCDs and high end graphics cards.

I'm really starting to like the ATi card. I need to redownload and install HL2 to see what this thing can really do, but I'm too lazy (makes sense since I could have it downloading right now while I'm on AT...).

I need to test out the VIVO.

I think I'm gonna have to end up RMA'ing the 6800GT as for some reason idle temps jumped from being just mid-high 50s to over 70. Also, when I removed it, the thing was hot, which the X850 wasn't. I hadn't overclocked or done anything either (didn't even remove the HSF to put on AS. Blah, overall, I'm not too impressed with BFG so far. If I had my Gainward in PCI-e flavor I'd probably be a happy camper right now.

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do. I'm considering trading the X850 for a PCI-e Ultra if I can find one. The reason I'm thinking this over the X850 is that if the new ATi cards that should launch in May or so are near as good as they're rumored to be I'll probably pick one up as I don't think nVidia will have anything to compete with them for bit, but if I decide that I'd rather not, then I can pick up a second Ultra later on and SLI (which will hopefully have matured a good bit by then).

After I contact BFG and figure out if they have any clue what might've been causing the issues I was having I'll get rid of it (after I RMA if I have to...). Wish I didn't have to get rid of the Gainward, that thing was great. Maybe I'll see if they'll let me pay the difference between the GT and Ultra and send me one of those instead (highly doubtful, but oh well).
 
Take the LCD's response time. Usually in milliseconds. Divide it into complete second. In the case of ms that's a 1000. So a 16ms LCD would be (1000/16) 62.5fps!

Basic math!

So an '05 Kia is better then a '03 Lexus/MB/Caddy by your standards. ATi's drivers are poor at best- they have bugs years old in their drivers they refuse to fix. Been running a R9800Pro for over a year now, listened to all of the lies of users raving about ATi's drivers and don't want others to be fooled by complete BS.

Peripheral vision is what your talking about there. What makes FPS games immersive. Its about twice that of direct vision. So the peripheral vision ceiling would be about 75fps.

Find a copy of fpscompare and see for yourself. My better half has relatively poor vision and she had no problem at all discerning 75FPS from 100FPS running side by side.
 
I'd keep the 6800U, not because of any performance or feature set difference, but because I'd be too lazy to wait for a cross-trade and would likely go into withdrawal after a couple days, as I have no backup vid at the moment 😀

Wow Ackmed, you're one of the most belligerent people I've met on a forum... just chill out a little.

In any case, the point I believe is that your LCD can only update/refresh the screen so often and thus would effectively limiting the framerate displayed on your monitor for you to see. Of course your gfx card will be churning the numbers and producing those frames, but your monitor will be saying "hey! not so fast! i'm working here!"

I think that's the point these guys are making at least. Dude, lighten up, no need to get all pissed off over some petty online argument. 😀
 
I am chilled out, I asked him a simple question. If you noticed, he tried to talk down to me. But I guess thats ok with you.

And you can disable vsync on a LCD (or any monitor for that matter) it will not limit your frames. Saying the ms time of a LCD will limit your frames is just wrong. Acording to him I can only get 32fps, and thats not true.

I dont get mad at anything online, but thanks for caring so much.

No you're right, it's not nice to insinuate people can't do simple math either! I only singled you out b/c your post was the last one I read.

I do care! I've seen so many people take online forums seriously and get all pissed off and it's really stupid. It's different from in real life since you let if fester since you can't communicate with them in real time. Anyways... my posting on this thread is done. Have fun guys!
 
I dont get mad about online stuff. The problem with forums, email, or other text based communication is that it doesnt show emotion or anything like that if you dont use icon, or something similar. Im sitting here waiting for my boy to get up from his nap, so we can go out, killing time. I wish I got as much sleep as him.

Agreed. Don't care much for SLI. Maybe when I can afford a corvette, I'll divy up for 6800's in SLI.

Yes. This isn't like the last gen where ATi parts thrashed nVidia's parts. ATi still has the edge in performance but it's not high enough so that other factors shouldn't be considered.

Certainly nVidia's drivers aren't perfect and I really wish they would release official drivers more often, but overall nVidia still has the edge IMO. Of course ATi's drivers are perfectly usable too.
