Would you think these people are black?

Oh no you didn't!

I'm with my son 😀

hehehe Matching outfits and everything! He has your smile. Out of curiosity, is your wife blonde?

WTF difference does any of this matter exactly? ...serious question.
It's human nature to categorize everything. Crayola may have a color that is Antique Brass, but most people would categorize it and call it Tan or Beige.

Just stopping by to say that I saw this picture on pics.bbzzdd and came here to find the thread so I could say:

that's adorable!

Thanks 🙂

Looks like someone

forgot to post pics of their wife. 😉

Most recent pic I had on my phone -- she's got him in an outfit that I absolutely HATE. Makes him look like a girl -- I wanna burn that damn thing:

Not sure what difference it makes. They're clearly black. If I saw them, I'd puzzle over what kind of black they are, but I do that with everyone, of every color. Unfortunately, it's not polite to ask strangers what they are, so I have to piece it together from known published samples.

On a Racial Anthropology site I belong to someone said Americans can't tell Australoids and Negroids apart, I wanted to see how true this was.

I just mean anyone if Sub-Saharan African ancestry, I said African american since most here are Americans, and associate blacks with African Americans.

I reject the term African American. AFAIC, the only acceptable use is for a first generation African naturalized as a US citizen. Everyone else is African, American, or just black as a descriptive term.

And I agree, I hate the term. We don't call white folks European Americans...

I'm not really one for labels but it doesn't bother me that someone should decide to identify themselves as African American, or Jewish or whatever other term of their choosing.

I don't personally address or refer to people by such labels so it's a non-issue for me.

Some of you need to quit acting retarded.

"But white people live in South Africa and stuff!"

Dude, when OP said 'African,' in reference to ancestry...could you not infer the fucking meaning?

Is it now racist to think that different skin colors evolved because of different groups of human ancestors living in different parts of the world? You know, that thing that is science?

edit: and in case it needs to be explained...yes, we all came from the same region. Then people split up and moved apart. Hence, if someone is talking about people being from Africa, Asia, Europe...they're probably talking about that 'post-split' time period. The fact that that would need explaining is baffling.

He has it easy. My mom used to give me perms! People used to say how pretty her daughter was. And I was old enough to know what they were talking about! 😵 Oh well, moms are gonna be moms.

Hehehe Anyways, he's a cute little guy. In that picture with you he seems so satisfied..like he is showing off his daddy.

It's funny how these issues go.

The bottom line is that there are people who want to insult and people who don't.

If you take away the N word from the insulters, they'll find another insult.

'African-American' has a history to it - it's a reminder to the insulters that blacks ARE Americans, which they sort of forgot.

But once that point is made, and not really challenged, the term becomes more awkward, as was said, we don't call white Euro-Americans.

It's a bit like how the fight against gay discrimination went through a phase of 'lifestyle choice'.

Back when the idea of killing gays on sight wasn't all that outlandish to some, when putting them in prison was still the law in some states, it seemed to make sense to appeal to the American notion of 'leave people the hell alone who don't hurt you' by referring to the tolerance of 'lifestyle', after all do you want the freedom to pick a lifestyle?

But after the point was made, the term was problematic because it falsely implued that gay was, well, a 'lifestyle choice', when it's not. That required backtracking to educate people.

I've tended to prefer 'blacks' for that reason - a counterpart to 'whites' - while happy to use 'African American' while it's the norm for a polite term.

Then of course, 'mixed race' creates a whole new bit of awkwardness.
