I think I definitely would. I'm paying $40 for cox 3Mbps down. And probably some crappy 512 or something up.

fuck yes.

Even if you don't want blazing download speeds and a cool tablet for a remote control, you can still get Google Fiber's basic five-megabit service for $0 per month.

you do need to pay a $300 install fee though.

I am currently under a two-year contract with Comcast for a Triple Play deal which was the best I could get. Once that contract ends I would switch in a heartbeat. Actually I might switch anyway, and just pay an early termination penalty to Comcast.

Maybe back in the day when I used to illegally download movies I would have switched, but comcast gives me plenty of speed right now(Especially since the biggest files I transfer these days are raw camera files) and they give me a channel line up that I like for the same $120. Actually $108, but there are taxes and stuff.

If anything faster than my 3mb at&t dsl comes along I'm switching immediately, so presumably yes.

I don't really give a crap about speed as long as it's consistently fast enough to stream full HD video. Data is more important. Has to be unlimited. Bell has fibre in new developments. Pump up the speed for insanely low data caps. Not sure what Google's offering. It will never come to Canada though. CRTC prefers to keep ISPs Canadian owned, competition be damned. Bell and Rogers would never allow it.

Probably. It would depend on the price, but if it was even CLOSE to what I'm paying AT&T for DSL...I'd switch in a heartbeat.

Probably not. Wouldn't want them tracking and mining everything I do.

I kind of agree with this.

If Google were to really expand this, most telcos have fiber out there and would just need to extend it.

If people think Google has a leg up in terms of infrastructure with fiber, they're dead wrong. ;)

Sorry to break everybody's bubble.

$70/mo for 1000/1000?

I currently pay $14/mo for 100/100 and it's fast enough most of the time tbh, so I don't think I'd pay an additional $56/mo for 1000/1000. But it might be worth it for people who need full speeds to/from anywhere in the world, if Google even does that.
