IDK how acurate this site might be or how old this news is, but I just caught wind of it and haven't heard of it anywhere else.

I think a Google alternative to PP would be awsome, because anything that Google has ever been a part of has lived up to my expectations, and I've always been satisfied with it. Hopefully this is true.

This is mentioned in that article above that the CEO of Google said that he didn't want to directly compete with PP; but if you make a "person-to-person, stored-value payments system" then how can you not?? So what do you guys think.

The fees are not the problem that most people have with Paypal. The problem is that they allow rampant fraud and there is 0 protection for anyone honest.

Probably not...ebay's ownership of paypal pretty gave them a monopoly in the online CC processing market...

GooglePay is just vaporware until Google releases something. I've been waiting for this since I first heard of it a year or more ago.

But I'd dump paypal in a second as long as google had either less fees or at least didn't charge fees for non-cc payment like PP does.

the problem isn't whether the sells will switch, it's if the buyers are willing to switch.
No fees for the buyers means why switch? If someone accepting GoogleBuy only and someone accepting Paypal is selling the exact same thing and most buyers are already signed up for Paypal then guess who they would buy from first?

Google gets a crapload of ad revenue from eBay. Google pretty much any product and you'll see an ad on the sidebar that says "Buy _____ on eBay" or something to that effect

To answer the OP's question - I have no idea, because I have no idea what google's service would be like. If Google starts a competing service to eBay AND a competing service to Paypal, they could potentially do very well. Or they could suck. All that google touches is not gold.

So how does Google make it less likely for fraud? I dont really see how any online money transfer system could be worked so it protected buyers AND sellers equally.

Yes I would jump to Google even if the fees are the same.

With the exception of Google Talk I would agree, but if they provide great customer service and protection for customers I wouldn't mind trying it out.

The problem with fraud is that theres so many ways for people buying ~and~ selling to lie and how does a money transfer company determine who is right?

For example, i send you an empty box but could you prove it? Or you make payment, i send the item and you claim its not as described or broken (and it isnt) How do you decide who is telling the truth?

Bidpay worked well for sellers as there was no comeback, paypal really doesnt work great for either party as if the funds are removed you wont get them back, and if someone claims against you even though you shipped the item you either lose the money or lose your account.

Maybe a system is needed thats only usable with a credit card, you have to include the CV number on every transaction (like most merchants) and you can only ship to a verified address, no exceptions.

Paypal protection is equal. It is none exsistant for both.
