No. If you never visit the other forums, it's obviously not content you're after. The only thing this would change, for you, is how fast threads drop off the first page. I don't want to see Garage or Health&Fitness or P&N crap at all, so I stay out of there. I'm perfectly happy with OT the way it is and the L&R shit all collected in one place so I can laugh at the sheer stupidity of some people. It's easier to follow topics that don't race off the first page.

this

But that's not true at all either... I always read the hilarious YAGT threads when they were in OT, but I don't really venture all that much into L&R. Same with random car threads and other stuff. They interest me on some level, but I only go into subforums if I'm actively looking for a specific topic to post or read.

This.

Then you won't miss the content if it never returns. If you really do miss it, you can click L&R. It's right there.

<--

See?

And, that way, the rest of us don't have to fight for our right to party against a dozen threads fighting for the top about a bunch of social rejects trying to get a date.

Does any forum software allow for post-tagging + filtering? Put all posts in a single forum with each post self-assigned and tagged to a particular group. Users can then set their view preferences for which categories they want to filter.

I actually wouldn't mind a cross-forum view with Gen Hardware/Video Cards/CPUs/PC Gaming/Hot Deals/Off Topic all mixed together.

Why do you want Health and Fitness in OT. Have you seen it lately? A bunch of journals of the members there progress and discussions about different training methods. What possible interest would it have for you? All that'd happen is that you guys would ruin those discussions.

I bet if we were to poll those that actively participate in H&F if they'd like that forum to rejoin OT the vast majority of them would be against it.

Point taken on the H & F forum. I'd still like to see LR and the garage back in here myself.

YES! ATOT is better with the increased traffic. I've been calling for this for over a year.

I think that we should bring the garage back in here. L&R? Hell no... that place is scary!

There is certainly an unnaturally high concentration of pervs and other associated social misfits in L&R. "OMG, my GF of eight days broke up with me!!!!" or "My stepsister has been looking at me funny, I think she likes me!!!"

Don't forget the "I've know this girl a really really really long time... i think she likes me" .. then the reveal 3 pages later "oh.. btw... we met a month ago"

Go outside and play, it's summertime.

Whining and teeth gnashing about the Forums, traffic on the Forums - so what?

Try developing some social skills with some face time with a real live person. It could come in handy some day.

I am adamantly against merging H&F with ATOT. It's be like throwing the pearls to the swine...

Merge. I kinda like categories, but Anandtech is a Technical forum, first and foremost. Off Topic should be one big social place. I think we have lost traffic because of all the crazy wacky rules.

Gawd no. You can go to the sub forums and have a decent discussion. If they were in OT it would ruin any real dialogue.
Plus, OT is already too emo without merging L&R back in.

I'd prefer if everything was in one category. PN, OT, highly technical, programming, general hardware, etc.

*nods affirmatively*

I was against the split in the first place.

So, a stagnant forum with 1/4 of our traffic answers what?

The real answer is 1 forum with tags that individual users can turn on/off. You can thus ignore the garage threads if you wish or look only at L&R threads, or whatever but the rest of us can see all that we want simultaneously. But no one in charge would actually do that.

Yes, please. Tag all threads relating to religion and auto-delete.
