Would You Support a Member's Only Forum on Anandtech, which requires an annual Fee?

Not a duplication of all the forums for a member area, but just another essentially OT/Catch All forum heading that is accessible by those who pay an annual fee, perhaps a nominal amount, enough to keep the juvenile dunderheads out. I guess I'm tired of people tearing each other down in some threads, or posting only to find fault or make silly comments. My assertion is that those people will likely not pay. Thoughts?

Please don't ask for a poll, this is a discussion. And I'm sure I'll get many comments from those I think would not pay for a subscription area (gee, that's a surprise :sneaky:). We'll see where this thread is headed.

i paid back when subscriber got you on a faster server

i would pay for a sub-forum with sillier trolls, not one that kept out the funny trolls, that would be too boring

this place (the non-technical forums) is about ENTERTAINMENT , it is a form of reality entertainment, like reality TV on the internets

if you want "serious" social forums, then go over to P&N ;)

How much was that? Was it a one time deal or monthly?

Nah, I wouldn't pay money. If you threw in a Tshirt or something, I might though.

i think it was $3/month? something like that , i think i paid for either 6 months or 1 year and by the time my subscription was up, they did away with it and it all went back to free for all , all the time, free ^_^

I'll just say having money to spend doesn't make you mature (as opposed to a juvenile dunderhead) and as you mentioned many people would not pay. From what I understand forum activity isn't near what it used to be, so this new forum would only be that much more quiet.

Agree with fobot about entertainment.

+1 for Poll.

No. It might keep out some decent people who aren't sufficiently interested to pay. One interesting person is worth 100 trolls IMO.

If the purpose of a fee-based forum was to support Anandtech, I might support that idea. I will not support it for the purpose of keeping the majority out.

If you really wanted a forum like that, just create an invitation-only forum.

Sure, I'd be down.. but I don't really see the point. It would probably be the slowest forum here.

Paid forums do have their perks, weeding out the crap for example. Just look at how fantastic the community over at Something Awful is.

But I don't know... paying to post on an internet forum is so foreign to me. Maybe if it was a one time fee, but I probably wouldn't even consider it if it was recurring.
