My bike stays in the attached garage. I doubt I'd bring it in. I wouldn't want the place to smell like oil and gas.

It probably won't hurt to store the bike outside as long as you do it properly. Pull it up onto a tarp. Winterize the bike (gas treatment, etc) and pull the battery. Cover the bike with towels and blankets and wrap the tarp up over the bike. Then put a good tight-fitting cover over the bike. Now it's weatherproof. The cold won't hurt anything.

It's not only his house, it's my moms too and I pay rent.

Like I posted above, it's a single car garage that's small. There's not too much junk in there but there certainly isn't enough room to stash the bikes. Also it's not heated and it's damp in there as it's right under the 2nd floor master bedroom. When you come in with a snowed up car with grime, it all melts and starts to evaporate inside the garage, not good for the bikes.

1. Maybe, but then who cares.
2. Don't have garage space for that, if we did, there wouldn't be an issue.
3. It's not a pain in the ass at all, we have a big gate to our backyard and you can basically ride the bike right into the house from the back.

Funny thing about all of this is is that he didn't give a reason as to why not. Sometimes my pops is devious :)

I didn't realize this was a point-counterpoint issue. You asked if we would keep our bikes in our living room and give you reason why I wouldn't.

Perhaps you should ask "Give me reason I shouldn't keep my bike in the livingroom".
That way your rebutals have weight. I know...it's anal.

Yeah, most parents are like that. Mine included. :)

Same man. I'd keep everything in the house if I could, including the sailboat. I actually just need a tiny corner to sleep in that's about it :D

Did that in College, a Yamaha RD400 and a Honda 750, nice watchin' TV, having a Beer, and polishing your bike :)

Wait, you have a new Harley, but live at home with mom and dad???

BTW I voted yes, because I have stored a bike in my living room before.

Bachelor pad..why not...co-habit with a woman...hell no.

We moved into a corporate apartment at my current project and while we left most of our stuff at our house, we still brought too much. We now have our mtn bikes sitting in our guest bedroom...and that annoys my wife everytime we have overnight visitors. I couldn't imagine what she would think of a motorbike in our living room.

I live with my parents. Here's the kicker, my mom says yes and my dad says "hell no" (no reason given, just no). Take into consideration too that the living room is essentially my moms space. She has her little museum there that she organizes/cleans just for looks. If anyone would be against it, it would be her, not my dad.

Another factor to throw into this fun equation which I left out on purpose is that he has a motorcycle too and is in need of storage, we could fit both of our bikes there. It's supposed to snow Thursday, we'll see what happens as the week progresses :) He's made zero plans to store his bike.

Worst comes to worse Ill ask a friend to stash it in their basement, although I don't really want to because there are crazy kids in that house along with parties + drunks wandering around the house, so yea...

Controlling people ftl :(

Oh man there'

I'd go paranoid about gas fumes getting out. Didn't say it was a real problem, but the OCD needs to feed on something.

After you put both motorbikes in the living room start parking your cars on the lawn and maybe throw an old sofa next to them to complete the effect.

Let's say you have a motorcycle and you have a single car garage with no space to store it in for the winter. You do have a big house though and a living room with a sliding door going in from the backyard. No one ever spends any time in your living room and it's more of a museum than anything. There is no TV there, it's sole purpose exists just so you can wipe the dust of the stuff that's there every now and then.

If you were to store your motorcycle there, it would be right up against the glass doors and would make very little impact on the actual space of the living room even if you did decide to use it.

Benefits of storing your bike for winter in your living room:

1. It's heated
2. It's safe
3. It doesn't cost you anything

Cons?

The other option is paying for storage where you can buy a package deal for $ 250 bucks or pay $ 60-80 per month in a place you don't know, advertised as heated but who knows?

I'm assuming this is your parents house? I think you need to convince them, not us.

My friend did this with his Harley back in college but it wasn't a nice house either.

I would do it for seasonal storage but not for weekly in/out sorta crap.

Drain the gas - your gas tank is vented. If the vent is working properly you shouldn't get fumes inside but you never know. Also put it on front/rear stands.

Yo my bike is the shit! The only reason I could afford it is because I live at home lol, you guys have it all backwards man :D Reading comprehension ftl! And it's not my parents that are against it, it's my dad only, and if you read the thread you would see that technically my mom should have the say in the matter as the living room is technically her space and no one elses.

But anyways, update on the situation: My dad agreed and caved in, but today I went to my moms friends friend (hot MILF btw) and she agreed to let me stash my bike in her empty heated garage. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!! The condition is that I have to give her a ride in the spring (not a problem).

Although I'd still want to have the bike in the living room to polish it up etc, not to mention it would probably be the sexiest piece of furniture in the entire house, the V-Rod is just sex on wheels, come on now ;)
