Let's say you have a motorcycle and you have a single car garage with no space to store it in for the winter. You do have a big house though and a living room with a sliding door going in from the backyard. No one ever spends any time in your living room and it's more of a museum than anything. There is no TV there, it's sole purpose exists just so you can wipe the dust of the stuff that's there every now and then.

If you were to store your motorcycle there, it would be right up against the glass doors and would make very little impact on the actual space of the living room even if you did decide to use it.

Benefits of storing your bike for winter in your living room:

1. It's heated
2. It's safe
3. It doesn't cost you anything

Cons?

The other option is paying for storage where you can buy a package deal for $ 250 bucks or pay $ 60-80 per month in a place you don't know, advertised as heated but who knows?

Hell NO!

My dad did that with his new Harley when I was young, and it wasn't cool at all.

This is a new Harley also. And why wasn't it cool? I am guessing you guys used the living room space?

I did one winter when I lived in St. Louis. But I lived alone so it didn't matter that much.

Man pad? Hell yeah I'd keep my bike inside.

Co-habitating with a chick? All bets are off. I'd toss enough of the shit you have stored in the garage out to fit the bike in there.

I live with my parents. Here's the kicker, my mom says yes and my dad says "hell no" (no reason given, just no). Take into consideration too that the living room is essentially my moms space. She has her little museum there that she organizes/cleans just for looks. If anyone would be against it, it would be her, not my dad.

Another factor to throw into this fun equation which I left out on purpose is that he has a motorcycle too and is in need of storage, we could fit both of our bikes there. It's supposed to snow Thursday, we'll see what happens as the week progresses :) He's made zero plans to store his bike.

Worst comes to worse Ill ask a friend to stash it in their basement, although I don't really want to because there are crazy kids in that house along with parties + drunks wandering around the house, so yea...

Controlling people ftl :(

lol I've done it before, on the 2nd floor in a crappy efficiency. Needless to say I got in trouble. Oh well, I was young and stupid, no biggie. I miss that bike! <3 Magna.

Some years back I knew a couple guys that raced motocross and rented out an old farmhouse together. They would tear their bikes down for rebuilds every few weeks or so right in the kitchen.

That said, if your living with the folks I would look for somewhere else to store it no matter what they said.

ONLY if you take all the gas out of it and make sure you have something under the tires as to not damage the floor.

Take the oil and gas out? Doesn't that go against the strategy of winter prep storage? lol

Just got word from my mom that my dad caved it. Yay! Not sure why he made such a big stink about it in the first place considering he had no where to put his bike either.

Well, as it's HIS house, it's also his perogative to bitch about as much as he likes.

Maybe I don't understand why you're so adament about having it in the house. How much treasure/junk/boxes/cars does this garage compromise of?

Maybe time to do some house cleaning?

I wouldn't want to keep my bike in the house for a few reasons. I'll state them as asked
1) To me it seems a little bit redneck. Don't know why, it just does.
2) I have garage space for that
3) Would be a PITA for me to move one inside

Its just some cold, your bike will be just fine outside in a garage.
The only thing it will hurt is the battery... Take it out, plug into battery tender, reverse in the spring...

It's not only his house, it's my moms too and I pay rent.

Like I posted above, it's a single car garage that's small. There's not too much junk in there but there certainly isn't enough room to stash the bikes. Also it's not heated and it's damp in there as it's right under the 2nd floor master bedroom. When you come in with a snowed up car with grime, it all melts and starts to evaporate inside the garage, not good for the bikes.

1. Maybe, but then who cares.
2. Don't have garage space for that, if we did, there wouldn't be an issue.
3. It's not a pain in the ass at all, we have a big gate to our backyard and you can basically ride the bike right into the house from the back.

Funny thing about all of this is is that he didn't give a reason as to why not. Sometimes my pops is devious :)

Oh and btw our house is pretty big. We are just 3 people and we have 4 bedrooms upstairs + a finished basement downstairs with rooms. Technically we could take out a lot of the stuff from the garage and fit the bikes there (maybe). I have been offering to do this for the past 6 months but my dad said not to touch the garage, so I didn't lol.
