A single 690? no. Too bad you can't do tri sli or quad sli with 690 and (2x)680 like you can with AMD cards. 2x690 for QUAD sli? I would have to see some benches against quad 7970. Unfortunately users with more than 2 gpus are largely ignored by review sites and driver teams. After the experience with my cards I just want a fast single GPU, unfortunately no such card exists on the consumer market. Wonder if GF110 would be up to the task. Unfortunately a single gpu card that beats my cards fair and square might never happen on 28nm. :( I don't know if I want to get into multi-gpu mess again, but single gpu cards are soooo slow. :(

Why spend 1k on a 690 when a potential 790 is around the corner...I bet thea 790 can do triple monitor gaming @ high resolution without need for SLI. We don't know much info yet, but the 7xx series should be out by Q2 next year from what I read. That can be delayed however. gl

A single card driving 3 high resolution monitors (2560x1600(1440), keep dreaming. Currently there are no single gpu cards that I would be comfortable with the fps it puts on just a one high resolution monitor. GTX680 - midrange card selling as high-end. 7970 slightly faster but still too slow due to die size constraints and computing prowess. GK110? I can keep dreaming NV releases that for the consumer market, they can grab almost an order of magnitude more money selling it as a tesla card. NV royally screwed gamers by not releasing high-end consumer card this generation. If that wasn't bad enough they locked voltage control on their 500$ card. Dollars are all they see as a company.

The reason review sites ignore that segment is because it basically doesn't exist. Number of people with quad-GPU setups is probably in double digits.

More like a couple of thousands I guess. Nevertheless if they offer that feature they should support it no matter how many gamers have that many cards.

BTW. Does CF work in borderlands 2?

I would not buy a 690 unless I was a collector or something. My money would go for 2x670s or 2x7950s IF I was going to go multi-GPU.

This:no, it doesn't perform any better than 670 2GB SLI for $700, nor is it better than your 7950 crossfire overclocked
You can already get better performance than the 690 from your current setup. So I say yes-go ahead and get poorer performance than you currently have and burn that $1000:confused:

I wasn't planning on getting one. I was just shocked to see so high a price and wondering if anyone else would spend that much on one graphics card. Obvious answer appears to be no.

I would if it had 8GB of memory (2x 4GB). Maybe then it would actually be worth $1000.

Oh man.. this guy's on track to becoming the next big anandtech celebrity...

The answer's pretty obvious for the 690/7990/dual gpu cards. It's got a purpose, most people can't justify it, but it's there for those who need it.

It seemed you were looking for an upgrade because you told us your current GPU setup in the OP. Had you omitted that, it would've seemed more like a general question of "is this card worth $1000" rather than a personal "should I buy it".

It depends on your budget and what you want to do.

If you only have the money for a single GTX680 but want to go SLI when the funds are available, then no on the 690.

If you are going to go SLI from the start and have the funds, the 690 is a better way to go than 2 680's. It is only a slightly longer card, frees up more space in the computer, is just as fast as 2 680's, and uses less power.

I said yes and went with the 690. I intend to get a second 690 later.

I will bet you that to run Crysis 3 at highest settings you will want to have dual GTX690's in SLI.

lol no i don't want it; but from the posts on this forum, you should sell it while you still can and get two 7970's for the same price.

What? no. Your two 7970's are just fine. I would only get a 690 if I planned on getting two 680's and if I just wanted a cool looking card for my....actually no. I would get two 670's like I did. The 690 is a tard card because two 680's are faster for the same price.
