Would you spend $1000 on GTX 690?

Do you think it's enough performance to justify the cost?

(p.s. I have 2x Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Crossfire)

What? no. Your two 7970's are just fine. I would only get a 690 if I planned on getting two 680's and if I just wanted a cool looking card for my....actually no. I would get two 670's like I did. The 690 is a tard card because two 680's are faster for the same price.

Never buying a dual GPU card. If I received one, I would sell it before it was outdated.

If I had the money I would have much more than my single 7950 I plan on keeping for a few years. With that being said, there isn't much justification for the 690 besides that it looks cool and is a little more efficient than two cards separately. If you have the money to buy that thing though I assume that power isn't really an issue. It isn't a bad card but there isn't a good reason that it costs quite as much as it does.

lol, no.

Unless I didn't have the space for dual cards i might consider it, but then if I could afford to spend $1000 on a 690 I can afford a better board or case for a fraction of that.

This. Demand for them is poor when they are outdated, not many people want a power hogging beast that may or may not utilize both of its GPUs dependent on the game you play.

no, it doesn't perform any better than 670 2GB SLI for $700, nor is it better than your 7950 crossfire overclocked

You can already get better performance than the 690 from your current setup. So I say yes-go ahead and get poorer performance than you currently have and burn that $1000:confused:

Not worth it for the vast majority of consumers out there including you. Dual gpu cards of this type have a high failure rate and you would be lucky if it lasted any more than two or three years. Beyond that it is only good for people who need a two in one solution (space constraints) and those who need as many gpu-s as possible for cuda applications. The rest are just collectors who will pick this card off for almost nothing a few years from now. I own a few dual gpu cards including the first dual gpu Nvidia cards and I can tell you that once there is a problem good luck fixing it.

The only dual gpu consumer card that actually lasted was the 3DFX 5500, the rest such as the 7900GTX Duo and the 7950gx2 for example often needed reflow. The 9800gx2 had very poor cooling and 512mb was game breaking at 1080p. The GTX295 that was the only time where dual gpu cards were mainstream were not the easiest cards to maintain. The GTX590 was a complete joke and the 690 isn't much better. Your are likely enjoying better performance already than the 690 offers.

Why spend 1k on a 690 when a potential 790 is around the corner...I bet thea 790 can do triple monitor gaming @ high resolution without need for SLI. We don't know much info yet, but the 7xx series should be out by Q2 next year from what I read. That can be delayed however. gl

1) It's not right around the corner

2) Buying these niche cards should only be for a specific reason - AKA, one PCIe slot and need the GPU power, Cases, etc

3) He has 2 x 7950's now. Its a massive sidegrade.

THIS!!!

My "old" gtx460 at 825mhz is still rocking just fine, let alone even thinking of spending $300 on a new card let alone $1000. o_O
