Would you send your kids to a same sex school?

I work at an all girls school and I wonder if I would send my own kids to a same sex school.
I dont have any kids now, but I see how some of these girls are acting. I'm 23 so the age difference isn't
that far off. When I see some of the seniors they go crazy because I'm a guy who's close to their age.
Believe me some of them date guys older than me!

Anyways, some are immature and I wonder how they would deal with college life with guys and girls in the same setting.

I wouldn't cause I think it's important to their development to be around different sex and learn how to communicate and be around them.

Dating is an important part to growing up, and the majority of kids date from within their own school. If you don't have any girls in your school, it makes it harder for them to meet girls and have time to get to know them.

Or vice versa, I've got a son so everything came out about dating girls :D

I went to all boys schools from 5-12th grade. Everyone in college thought it was weird, I thought it was normal (which it is for New Orleans). I didn't have any problem adjusting in college, nor did I (or any of my friends) have any problems with the opposite sex while in HS. I wouldn't hesitate to send my son or daughter to a same sex school if it offered the best education I could afford.

I go to an all-male college (Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN)

It really depends on what my kid would want. The main reason I'm here is because I have a full ride and the other colleges I wanted to go to that have comparable programs didn't give me anything. Sometimes it's very depressing not having girls around, but I deal with it.

I don't think I would...

Then again I think I'm probably the youngest guy to chime in thus far. :)

I hvae to agree completely with the post above: it's important to develop relationships with both sexes...not just one.

I went to an all-guys school from 9-12. The biggest misconception is that we cannot interact with/communicate with/act properly around females. All of the all-guys schools in my area have plenty of dances, male-female dialogue days (with all-girl schools in the area), and clubs that include both males and females (again, with all-girl schools in the area).

I definitely received a better education by going to an all-guys school. It is a lot easier to concentrate, not as many distractions, and I think the friends that I and my classmates have made in the last 4 year are better friendships that guys make at both-sex schools. Very nice sense of brotherhood.

When I was in 8th grade I was not happy with the idea of going to an all-male high school, but looking back now, it was definitely worth it. I've had many girl friends and girlfriends, there is no lack of relationships with females in an all-male school

I want my children to perve on the opposite sex and have some interaction with them. Better to learn and make mistakes when they are young then to have to do it in Uni or later imo.

I think it is important for them to interact with everyone.

Yes for girls, no for boys. My friend got sent to an all-male school and came back a homosexual. I'd rather keep my teenage daughter AWAY from as many boys as possible.

That is stupid in so many ways it's painful.

So, by that logic, your son shouldn't play sports either, right? Think about it....all those guys....running...sweating....patting each other on the ass...you do know 90% of NFL players are gay, right?

God no. It's hard enough to find decent women in a co-ed environment, much less where there are no women.

If I had a child that was gay I'd send them to a same sex school. :)

I went to an all boys school from grades 6-10 and i know i received a better education then any other schools in the area. But, there is more to life than just getting a great education. I would have settled for an decent education (where i still would have obtained the same GPA and probably accetped into the same Universities). Intermingling with the opposite sex is important for development as a young adult. Developing good social skills with both sexes is important at that stage in life. Weekend dances with girl's schools tend to make girls sex objects rather than anything else..

The separation of the two genders is just silly i think. I turned out being very shy around girls, until i came to America at 16 when the chicks digged my accent.. LOL

Maybe if it's one of those prestigious prep schools that cost $20,000 a year, then i can see how they can justify this. Spending that much money on education, the parents want no distractions for their kids mon-fri.

That's just my opinion.

Hey calm down, I was mostly joking. But don't tell me you've never heard of men resorting to homosexuality in prison. This school was like a prison, it was a sort of reform school (boarding school). My school played sports against them in high school, and they did seem to have a large number of kids with homosexual tendencies.

I'd send all of my kids to a private school. I doubt I'd consider same-sex schools.

No, because school is supposed to help kids learn about how "the real world" is. I don't think being around the same sex all the time will help them develop fundamental relationships of growing up.
