Would you say online play-money poker is rigged?

I think games at poker room are rigged. The hands I'm dealt are sometimes too-good-to-be-true, in a sense. Would anyone else agree with this?

I feel like they'd rig it to make it appealing so you'd play with real money..

I would agree that it is very possible. There have been stories lately about people who win and the casinos don't want to pay up.

I'd say that with the amount of hands that are played there each minute, it'd be very hard to rig them.

And why would they rig a poker game when only another user would make that money?

Online casinos have no compelling reason to cheat their customers. The larger cardrooms are raking in money hand over fist without cheating, with extremely healthy profit margins and virtually no risk. They have much more to lose by running crooked games than by dealing the games straitup.

Have you conducted any scientific studies to verify a non-random distribution of cards? I'm guessing not.

Gamblers will come up with all kinds of excuses to rationalize their losses, whether it be the dealer, the casino, the alignment of the stars, or whatever.

No I think what he is saying is that they are hustling.
They throw you winners when you play in the free/play-money tables to try to entice you into playing for real money where they play by the real rules and you get whipped.

I wouldn't put that past a site that offers table games, but poker is a zero sum game. If someone at the table is making "money" with their cards, then someone at the table is getting broke with theirs.

Agreed. I also think a lot of non-real money gambling games have the odds slightly in the player's favor. Who wants to play games that they're ultimately going to lose?! (well, til they get to the real casinos when money's on the line!)

not true, the casino gets a rake of every pot, the bigger the pot, the more money, the better the cards two players have, the more money they bet

I am up over $350,000 in play money on empirepoker.com. I know if I put in $50 real money it would be gone with 3 hands.

Ask the guy who won a million or two and they refused to pay. Blackjack was the game I believe.

They can be rigged so that 2 players have nearly the same hands so the pot gets big and therefore the rake gets big. Also, they can have a shill playing for house money that gets the good hands.

*edit = Also, it's a computer program. The volume of hands doesnt matter.

no i don't think there is any need for pokerroom or any other poker site to rigged/hustle/enhance the game. texas hold em is a great game for casinos to host, because the fact that 5 of 7 cards in each players hand are SHARED. This means that it is unlikely that any one person will have a hand that is much better than the second best hand. Exceptions are flushes (debatable), four of a kinds, and straight flushes.

When two or more players have good, but similar hands, then large pots ensue. Larger pots equal larger rakes.

Are you joking? Stop and think about it. If they throw YOU winners, that implies they throw EVERYONE winners, unless you are just getting "lucky". Then, take into account that they have no reason to single you out over every other player at the table, and you get something that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Now, I wouldnt put it past them to give you a really good hand, and one other person a really good hand in REAL money games, so that the pot goes up, and so does the rake.

Poker isnt rigged. The house makes money NO MATTER who wins. They take a percentage of the pot. THey are very heavily auited and I havent EVER been stiffed by an online poker room, or casino for that matter.

So basically they are picking him out of the other 8 players at the table to swindle? It doesnt make senseunless all the other 'players' at the table are casino controlled robots who dont care if the lose every time. Its difficult to rig a game like that becuase unlike blackjack and others, you compete against several players and there is always ONE winner.

"heavily audited"? Aren't they all based in foreign countries? How would they be subject to audits by the US government?

i doubt the game is rigged because if you think about like everybody says you play against other human players and most online poker sites take $1 for every $20 played that and tournaments(sp) is how they make their money. one thing i do believe that they have is proffesional poker players playing with house money to win our money.

I played online craps once.

Used fake money at first and did pretty good.

Used real money next ($50), got 100% matched, so I started with $100. First 5 out of 6 rolls, I kid you not, were snake-eyes. I quit playing once I got down to my original $50, which was about 12 rolls.
