Would you report someone's car if it was a HORRIBLE polluter?

Here ever car has to pass an "aircare" test at worst annually. I'm sure there is something similar in the US or at least in many states in the US. Was in a parking lot the other day when an old beater started up and threw up HUGE clouds of choking soot and fumes. Filled 1/2 the parking lot. I didn't do anything of course because I don't want to be a busy body about something like that but it occurred to me that I could have written down his license plate number and reported his car.

Would you agree with someone doing something like that?

Mind your own fucking business. They aren't hurting you and when it comes time to test he'll get dinged.

Back 6-7 years ago I cracked the ringlands on my car, and it smoked like crazy for the 2-3 weeks it took until I got the parts in to fix the problem. I must have received 6-7 letters from the city from people calling in to report my car.

All the letters said something to the effect of "Now we can't officially do anything, but please fix your car". 😀

Someone reported me once. WTF. It was BS. But I believe it's your right to report an obviously polluting car. And it's not true that it isn't hurting you. It is hurting you to breath that shit (it's disgusting) and it's hurting everybody. I haven't reported anyone yet but there have been times when I've thought I should.

I say it's your responsibility.

No emissions testing in my state. Hopefully it stays that way.
The future's coming ready or not.

To AL? I think not. 😛

Besides, there are still enough of us that wouldn't want to put up with that crap to keep it a political non-issue unless the federal gvt forces it.

Eh, I kinda side with Muse. I don't buy into man-made global warming, but at the same time I really don't like breathing fumes, and it's apparant that more fumes equals more asthma for everybody, especially kids. That said, I'm too laid back to report that sort of thing unless I've got a lazy neighbor that absolutely won't fix his car.

No, but I sure did laugh when I saw a guy do his best impression of a mosquito fogger in front of a cop the other day. He got pulled over very quickly.

No, here it's a grandfather clause. Old cars only have to pass the specs for their "born on date".

Same here. Only costs $9 a year to get my old car inspected, and it doesn't take long at all to do the test. They pretty much just check to see if all the lights work and give you a new sticker.
