Better to report it anonymously from a payphone or burner phone. Or send an email to the police department from Proton mail. The person is already dead and cannot be helped anymore but reporting might give the grieving family closure.

The one time I encountered what might have been a dead body I didn't report it, my friend reluctantly posed for photos with it.

A group of us, while in college, took a trip to Connecticut. On an off day we had a side adventure to Manhattan. While exploring the city we come upon this surprisingly empty stretch of road. I want to say it was on the eastern side, near the water. Anyway, there's a car stopped there with a guy in the driver's seat. Head lolled to the side, eyes closed, mouth open. By all accounts you'd think he was asleep. The only problem was he wasn't pulled off to the side he was like 3 lanes over. And maybe he was passed out drunk but it was only like 1 in the afternoon. Very strange set of circumstances.

Someone I knew had bought property, old property, while digging out for a new house they dug upon a baby skeleton. This has been in the ground for 100 years+. They didnt report it, as they phrased "right to privacy" for past generations.. Old laws dont apply to new laws. Something like that. I mean, I get it.. Personally I'd still phone it in though.

Dead body?
You mean the dead body of that kid who bullied me in school?
The dead body of that guy who seduced my wife?
The dead body of that guy who cut me off in traffic?
THAT dead guy???
Yeah definitely I'd report it because obviously someone hated that dead guy more than me. :p

I have found a dead body, and I reported it after I got back to my car with the dogs. It took about an hour out of my day, that's it. Someone else would have found him if I didn't, he had a heart attack and was probably dead before he hit the ground according to what the coroner thought.

Without hesitation..... unless as previously mentioned I was somehow involved in making them dead!

My ex's AA sponsor called me to check on my ex, and she was dead when I got to her place, yeah, I reported it. I didn't run into any legal issues/hassles as a result of reporting it.

It's a tough call, do I really want to get myself tied up in that whole situation, potentially have to testify in court etc, or be considered a suspect? Seems like a can of worms. Either way the first thing police are going to ask is "what were you doing there?".

If I don't report it, I think it would bother me though as I'd feel I need to. That's still a person that had family and the family wonders where he/she is.

I think it's best to just report it, just make sure you have a good reason for being in that particular location so they don't suspect you did it. Your DNA is already all over the scene either way from lose skin cells, hair etc, so no point in trying to hide that you were there, it will only make it worse.

I reported a forest fire and got more than enough hassle from the GOV, I cant imagine what finding a body would cause.

My first one was at 16 yrs old, was going on a date with my now wife, had passed my her house one way, turned onto a farming road, to lose some idiots i knew from school that were following me.

I pulled back out, headed towards GF house, it was a gravel road, came up on the railroad tracks and could see tires marks where a vehicle was fishtailing, then over the tracks I could see the F150 stepside vehicle in the ditch with the drivers door opened. I noticed the rear window was full of shirts from one side to the other.

This was where I started slowing down AND thinking to myself, do I stop? will I get in trouble if I don't, what if they're hurt. Will I be in trouble?

As I got closer I could see the body laying in the ditch, with a rifle, presumably a shotgun. ( I was 16 didn't know much about guns) between his legs. Then I saw what was left of his head, very hard to explain, but basically from upper mandible, may have still had a nose, but it was just skin, laying flat, like if you laid a towel on a box. like the whole internal bone structure from the nose up ejected from his skin.

I went the little ways down, knocked on the front door of GF and told her to tell her parents to call 911. She thought I was joking, but I insisted, and her dad and I went back down the road.

He wouldn't let me go close, made me stay at my car. Thats when I noticed all the bright pink, red, black and grey pieces everywhere, in the road.

Thing is I don't recall passing this truck, or seeing it pass while waiting for the idiots from school to keep on going after I lost them. This all occurred in probably a 10 minutes times span, because dude most surely wasn't in the ditch when I passed by the first time.

Obvious suicide.

The next time would be about 10 years later.

y not?

Edit: um, might depend how hungry I am (I just came from the hoagie thread).

I called 911 4 days ago at midnight and said I heard what I took to be 1/2 dozen gunshots a few blocks from me. I gave them the cross streets where I live.

I also called my city twice in the last week to report a mysterious liquid that isn't evaporating covering 1/2 way across a local street for the last few weeks.

OK, Karen, put down the phone and step away from the window...

For all those that say they would just walk away and not report it. What do you think happens when the police find out ( cameras or witness' ) show that you were there in the area and didn't report it?

A few days ago I happened to look out my window to see my a$$hat neighbors dog attacking a guy and his dogs that he was walking leashed right in front of my house. (and yes it was a pit-bull-mix)

I called 911 then ran outside to help without hesitation just like I would hope somebody else would for me. Fortunately the dog wasn't really "people-aggressive" so between myself, the LEO's and another neighbor we herded him into the back seat of a patrol-unit.

Once I made it clear the dog wasn't mine, all the cops did was thank me for calling and helping.

(note no dogs or people were seriously injured)
