I chose gay because it was the only other option other than knocking up a 'some random girl' (one-night stand).. For me.. admitting that one is gay would seem to be easier than admiting that you knocked up some random girl.

well, i think it would have to be the knock up situation; not because i like that, but being gay just sounds so bad. You could just have a lapse in judgement and knock up some girl, but being gay is like a life decision, and clearly one i wouldnt want to make. call me a homophob if you like. I dont have a problem with gays, i just think its wrong....

Didn't quite see the random part, that does make it alot worse than say a steady girlfriend or something. Still its really no contest, I'll still choose the random girl (and triplets) over being gay.

Being the stereotypical "Strong and Silent" man is the reason that random girl is knocked up. I'd rather be gay than bring an accidental child into this world. At least I'd be accepting the "flaws" in my personality and living my life.

Yada yada, everyone now calls me gay because this is the internet, where individuals can give their scapegoats tongue-lashings while knowing that the rest of the flock will Baaa! right along with them.

Being gay is not a decision at all. Telling people about you being gay is. People could hide being gay waaaaaaay longer to live normal lives than someone having a child with someone they don't know could live the life they wanted. Supporting the child and raising it with love, being an actual father, and not to mention dealing with the mother of your child and custody disputes and/or child support. Having an unexpected child has way more "inyourface" reprocussions than being gay and telling your parents and keeping it quiet with the rest of the world.

Unless you would just kill the thing in your lapse of judgement then I guess thats ok, which is not a life decision at all.

I understand what you're saying but this is not out of hate. I should have explained myself better...I just think the gay lifestyle is disgusting. I know some gay guys and if any hanky-panky sh!t starts up I leave the room. I 'm cool with them, its just that I really don't want to see 2 guys groping each other.

fair enough, although you weren't being clear. after all, if we were talking about how WE felt, the thread title would be, "would you rather," not , "would you rather tell your parents." but whatever.

i wouldn't view myself any differently, because i don't view being gay as wrong or threatening in any way, nor as life choice or as a mistake. i find your assumption that anyone who feels that way must either have not thought it out or must be gay themselves to be pretty insulting, because you're either stereotyping me or saying i'm an idiot, take your pick. so yeah, i called you an idiot back, sue me. and i'm not gay and i have not only thought it out ON MY OWN (rather than listening to the "moral" agenda of the powers-that-be), but the majority of the independant scientific community agrees that there's nothing they can do about it. i'm glad i'm not gay because being gay is probably a pain in the ass (pardon the pun), but so is needing to wear glasses, and i wasn't ashamed to tell my parents i needed glasses when i was in 4th grade. so is being white, because it means you get sunburnt. so is having down syndrome, or missing a finger, or being blind or deaf. whereas having a child with someone you don't care about is preventable. it only happened because you messed up (and messed up is how your kid is going to turn out). so i'd rather have to "confess" the way i was born than confess that i was too stupid to put on a raincoat.

and yeah, i can imagine myself "as a gay." it's this wonderful trait called empathy. you should try it someday, it might make you less of an ass. edit: stormbv beat me to it. thanks storm.

Well, considering that I have an open friendship with my mom (dad's dead and the fvcking asswipe deserves it), I wouldn't have any problem telling her either one knowing that she would still love me and stand by to help me if I needed it like a good parent should. 🙂
 
knocked up random girl wins for me too. Plus my mom has already stated previously that if such a thing occured that she'd help me(us?) raise the kid so that I'd be able to finish school and whatnot. Not that this was ever really an issue, but it came up in conversation once somehow.

So yeah, I'd WAAAY prefer to have knocked up some random chick. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being gay, but I don't think that would be a very comfortable thing at all. It'd be FAR more uncomfortable.

I mean deep down inside, your parents probably want grandchildren from you, and although it's not exactly optimal that it's from a random chick, it's still grandchildren. On the other hand being gay pretty much means the opposite of that...(yes I realize in theory you could pay for a surrogate mother or whatnot but generally speaking people don't do that).

Not neccessarily...you don't have to think being gay is the RIGHT thing to be to support it...

If all gay supporters thought being gay were the right thing then they'd be gay too... Which isn't true.

You can support the rights of gays while not really believing that it's the right sexual preference. Let's not be overly homophobephobic here.

Of course now that I think about it, exactly how random does this girl have to be? The OP mentions that it's an Ex-Girlfriend, so it's not THAT random...

I suppose if it was a one night stand kinda deal they'd be pretty disappointed since that would bring a whole host of issues about whether I get to see the kid or not. But if it was a girlfriend or something I don't think my parents would care that much lol. Probably annoy my ass to get married anyway, but nonetheless, not that much of an issue.

And for some odd reason I think my dad would be glad that I got laid.

Well in the one case being gay isn't your fault, but knocking up a girl is. In the other it's probably better for your parents to have a grandkid early than realize that they likely never will and your life will be hard as a homosexual.

So, I don't really have an answer.

That's easy. When I was a kid I learned something called "make pretend". Using this skillset I'm able to put myself in other's shoes and imagine what it would be like to be in their position 🙂
