would you rather play games made from doom3 engine or half life 2 or other?

i haven't played much of doom3...and i've played much of half life 2...but i'm gonna vote half life 2 anyways, because the source engine is kickass.

doom 3 looks better to me and so does the characters and does not cause any wierd lag that i just started to notice after STEAM's recent update.

i would say Doom 3 for a game that will mostly be indoor and Source for mostly outdoor games.

I've always been an Unreal junky because that in my opinion has always been the more adaptable, more elegant engine. Source is VERY nice though, and making a run to be my new favorite. I'm standing by the first group of upstarts to challenge Id though and going with the Unreal tech.

Although to be honest, it's not the size of the endinge that matters, it's how you use it...

It would be awesome to mix the Doom 3 engine with the HL2 engine. Doom 3 IMO has superior animations(of the monsters) and HL2 in everything else.

What most people don't realize here is that Far Cry's CryEngine is the most versatile engine out of the four. It is capable of implementing fully the dynamic lighting that is seen in Doom 3. Its physics are almost as good as Havok's (used in the Source engine) and it can handle HUGE levels. I vote for Far Cry.

I'm voting for Source, but only because I think HL2 is a much better game than Doom3 in every way. It feels much better, looks better (arguably), and it has great physics that Doom3 didn't have (though I don't know about the capabilities of the D3 engine).

What I love about UT2004 is that the engine is so scaleable... it can look sweet and stil be played on crappy dell laptops.

Doom3 is a much more powerful engine, but I'll understand if people vote HL2. HL2 showcased its engine much better. Most people won't know what the Doom3 engine is capable of until another project based on it that isn't as dark or as scary.

I'm hoping the next gen graphic cards can handle Doom3's engine much better.

I see much more potential in the Doom3 engine over the source engine. There is absolutely nothing in HL2 that couldn't be done in the Doom3 engine. The lack of real time shadows and lighting kills the HL2 engine.

I'm an Unreal fan and voted as such, but the engine I'm looking forward to is the one behind Serious Sam II. Have any of you been keeping up with the Serious engine? It's pretty cool. I really hope the game lives up to it's potential and that the engine gets some licensees.

Source, because I can turn up the settings and it still runs nicely.

Just remember, a developer deciding between Doom3 and HL2 engines right now isn't releasing the game tomorrow.

HL2 lacks real time shadows and lighting?

Don't know how much of the games are engine capabilities versus something unique to the game. For example, the AI and scripted events in half life 2 are quite impressive compared to the other two games. On the other hand, the machinery in doom 3 is very impressive. The physics in half life 2 were far more impressive to me. Far cry might have capabilities, but until we see them in action, there's no way we can choose it.

Even with my non-DX9 card, I think HL2 looks much better than Doom3. This may just be due to the lack of variety in Doom3, but I'm biased towards HL2's graphics.

Believe it or not, the Starbreeze Engine.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay has an AWESOME game engine.

personally, i rather not support id anymore. . . . They don't know how to make a decent game any longer. 😛
