Would you rather live in India, China or Mexico?

Living under communist rule in China, my inability to speak Mandarin and the lack of jobs paying more than .25 cents an hour pretty much kill it for me. Not to mention backwater medicine and living with 1 billion other people.

India is extremely overcrowded. Food might be good, water so-so. Again earning 10 rupees a day and sleeping 50 to a room is none too appealing. Want to ride the train to work? 😱

Given the three I think Mexico takes it hands down. If you can avoid the drug dealers and eek out a living somehow you might make it afterall. The food is good, the water so-so and if things dont work out you can always come to America and demand citizenship. 😉

All three countries have corrupt cops and government officials, low standards of living and what-not. But if you had to pick among these three countries only, what would you chose and why?

India. I went there about 2 years back and they seem to have it good. Medical care is still bleh. We had to go to the hospital because my sister had the stomach flu, it was world war two-esque medicine. They have cities that are transforming from the fish market look to a bustling metropolis. Give them a decade or two before the cities begin matching the lower tier North American cities.

Frankly I think we are spoiled here in America. I mentioned that they also have backwater medicine in China. But if you think about it, when you have ONE BILLION inhabitants like China and India do, maybe this IS the best you can do.

Not every country can afford to pay doctors and nurses ELEVENTY MILLION DOLLARS to tell you to take aspirin and call them in the morning. And even if they could, why would they? What do they want? Two billion inhabitants? 😉

India. It's a rich culture with an incredible history, I like the people and I think there tends to be a focus on what people can do to better themselves, the architecture is amazing and the country as a whole seems to have the right focus moving forward. Certainly there are spots of wealth and spots of poverty but that is true of all the countries on your list.

Hehe true. We do have it pretty easy here with healthcare. I like the country overall though. Their new Prime Minister is definitely taking the right steps forward, and realizes the technological power the country is capable of.

I've been to China and Mexico. Never India, but my GF's mom goes there every year, so lots of stories.

Not sure until I actually visit India, but so far I'd guess China, in a big city, if I had some money that is. The big cities in China are probably the most modern out of all three, with the best infrastructure and safety.

If I was poor? Mexico, and then run across the border into USA.

doesn't india smell really really bad?

i've been to several indians friends' houses, and they all smell like shit. and the funny thing is, it smells like the same shit.

China - Hong Kong.
Yeah, Hong Kong. However, for the sake of the argument, I was thinking mainland... like Beijing or Shanghai. I don't think anywhere in Mexico or India can really compete.

But if you're really poor, all of those countries would suck. At least the weather in Beijing would be more tolerable though in the summer... but then you'd freeze in the winter.

Definitely India. The weather sucks most of the year, but it's cheap and relatively safe. Mexico would be perfect if not for the endemic drug crime.

My solution as well. 😀

Or you could always head down to Cancun and help tend to the needs of various college students there for spring break, while enjoying the "view."

I live in India. I will stay here, thank you.

Please do. Thank you for your cooperation. 😛

All three choices seem like excellent locations for nuclear glassing. We could eliminate something like 75% of the world's population with China & India, and Mexico...hell, they have oil. 😛

If I had to choose between one of the three...I'd have to choose Mexico so I could sneak back into the US with less hassles.

Of those choices China, as long as I could stay in Hong Kong. 😛
It does help that I actually know/knew someone from there making it easier to get a job that actually would pay well. 😛

Mexico, followed closely by China. Both have made great strides towards becoming modern industrialized nations. India has another ~20 years to catch up to those 2.

does it smell really bad there?

if you're native, you can't really tell because you've gotten accustomed to the odors.

Surprisingly, when I was there, I didn't smell anything that bad. If you went to the village areas, the smell was similar to a petting zoo, that sandy sort of smell. Don't know how to describe it.

i heard india has no toilet paper and you use ur left hand to clean your arse... i think i'll take china. i hear shanghai and other parts are pretty modernized.
