Would you rather live in a studio or pay $120 more to live in 1 bedroom apt?

damn i only pay $400 for my 1 bdrm...but yeah i'd much rather have 2 rooms instead of one...after bed, tv, and desk there wont be much room left, and i much prefer having a bed and tv in seperate rooms.

Apartments suck. Seriously if u can afford it i would reccommend buying a 2 family house and Living in one half and renting the other.

So, is "studio" just a fluffed up word for what used to be called an "efficieny" apartment?

Meaning: a single room where one corner is the kitchen, one corner is the living room, one corner is the bedroom, and the last one has a bucket and a sheet over it for the bathroom?

basically it's just a living room (which is also your bedroom), kitchen, and bathroom. so yes, but im not sure about the "bucket and a sheet over it for the bathroom" part, lol.

hah. I love those posts. (apartments are a waste of money, etc). generally speaking, if someone is looking at renting a $700/month studio, they probably can't afford to up and buy a 2 family house ;)

back to the OP... 1 bedroom, definitely. studio apartments are way too much like living in a dorm room, unless you manage to find a really nice/big studio. having your bedroom smell like whatever you cooked/burned for dinner that night kinda sucks.

I pay $550 for a 1br townhouse. I suppose it depends how much time you plan on spending at home and if you plan on entertaining. If money was tight and I was going to be so busy I only slept and ate at home and nothing more, I'd go for the cheaper one. However, if I was spending any considerable amount of time at home, I'd go for the more comfortable but more expensive one.

How much entertaining do you expect to do? How much time will you spend there? Would you save the money that you save for future investment in owning your own place?

:) And, I love these threads to... makes me happy for what I can get around here. *sigh*, but I have to drive 6 hours to get to the beach.

Try central Kentucky. Used to rent a 3 bedroom apartment with water, sewage, and trash pickup included for only $325. Was in a decent neighborhood, and the apartment was very clean and tidy. Only downside was no central heating/air, but just one big heating/air unit built-in the wall in the living room. Once had all 3 bedrooms occupied, only paid $108 a month rent :D.

If you want to get on the topic of cheap rent....I rented out a 3000 square foot house w/ 4 bedrooms and gorgeous hardwood floors for $595 a month when I went to college in Dubuque, IA. (I graduated in 2000)

Now THAT'S a lot of living space for the money. Split it 4 ways.
