Which of these 2 systems would you rather have, and why? This is not the entire system, but basically asking would you rather have AMD's top performing system, or intels? No Flames, just asking which would be faster cause the NForce 2 is fast from what ive heard. Im wondering which i should build, cause i got about 3 K to build a comp with, which would be faster considerign both got the best of everything? I would use it for games and lots of media encoding.

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 333FSB
ASUS A7N8X NFORCE 2
512 Dual Channel DDR PC3200
512 Dual Channel DDR PC3200

Or

Intel Pentium 4 3.06 533FSB
ASUS P4G8X
512 Dual Channel DDR PC3200
512 Dual Channel DDR PC3200

Definitely the P4 for a lot of media encoding, but both platforms have their strong points when it comes to speed, and if you haven't already seen it, Check out this link at SharkyExtreme.com.

They do a "High End Gaming PC Buyer's Guide" every month with a $2,500 budget without the bias of either AMD or Intel, but actually a rig with both platforms in mind. It looks like you'll be able to build a top-of-the-line rig based on either platform with several hundred dollars of your 3 grand left over.

Well, maybe one less hundred, since we know you'll be getting the 9800 Pro. Unless you want to save $120 and buy my 9700 Pro below 😉

For your needs, since you're going to be doing alot of multimedia encoding, I'd recommend the P4. Me personally, I'd take the 3000+ because I like having the multipliers unlocked for more overclocking freedom and playing around.

I would hang out to get a 2.8ghz or 3.0ghz p4c with 800mhz fsb and HT....The I would get the Abit i875 canterwood board....Some are getting these d1 stepping p4c's to 3.6 to 3.8ghz aircooled...That will be industry leading performance!!!

Actually if you building a flagship system, then I would go with something like the IC7 (Canterwood) and the 3.0ghz (800mhz FSB). If your gonna have all that bandwidth available you might as well get a processor than can use it. 🙂

Dang I type slow, took me at least 2 minutes to type my message. 😀

Like they said I would get the p4 if i had that money. Personally I wouldn't pay over $600-$700 for the whole box, but thats just me.
