Smarter. It seems like being smart is inversely proportional to happiness. The smarter you are the more you realize that the world sucks.

I rather be smart and sad, then ignorant and happy.

The problem is that a good amount of intelligent people don't know how to let go of their academic factual side on occasion and just have fun/go with the flow. I'm extremely intellectual, and it took me a while to figure it out, but I can easily have loads of unintellectual fun when I'm in the right mood.

To answer the question, I'd take intelligence.

On an unrelated note, I'd say the happiest people I've ever met have been Buddhist, and are extremely intelligent.

It depends. Would I just be happier but otherwise unchanged? I am pretty happy now, and the only reason I could be more happy is the usual consumer debt, relying on paychecks, etc. If being happier eliminates those, then I pick that. Otherwise I'd choose smarter but just as happy as I am now.

The happiest people I've ever met aren't geniuses; they live a rewarding life that pleases them.

Happier. I'd ditch tremendous amounts of intelligence if it were inversely proportional to happiness.

The intelligent tend to see the world for the shithole it is and fail to appreciate the small things as much they should.

I struggle with that every day.
