Half of each.
Do you know how painful it is to talk to someone who has little or no knowledge of ANYTHING outside of their area of expertice or field of studies? It's like talking to a mental midget, and I'd never want to be or know anyone like that. Those drugged up "street smart" hippie punks are no better.

I agree you can be both, just not one extreme either way.

I believe you can be both to a degree, but you will always have more of one...I have yet to meet anyone who is a "perfect" balance...

hard to describe "street smart" .. but you know what I'm talking about.

I'd rather be street smart.

The reason I ask is my friend IMs me this:
Him: yo
Me: sup
Him: how do I set one computer as a client
Him: and one computer as a server?
Him: i need to run some tests
Me: what are you talking about?
Him: well, my boss watns me to run this computer he wants me to test as a server
Him: and the computer i am using now as a client

he's got his masters in EE in less than a year

you think that's bad...?
my b-i-l who is a comp science grad... he bought a video cam. so i asked him if he bought a digital one
he says ... uhhh whaddya mean? oh right. it uses a tape - so it's not digital... :disgust:

I would rather be book smart, being a Phd and being the GURU of your field will earn you more respect and success and money than being just street smart (generally, there are expections ofcourse), and knowing things anyone with the willingness to learn and try and play around (for example everyone here who has done something ubercool with linux and consider themselves street smart (in computerse anyway) for that reason) can learn.
