oh, and the company is very well known. damn I'm tempted to quit!

Depends on a LOT of factors.
I'm leaning a lot towards NO, since I like my current job and company, and even though the pay isn't the best, everything else there is going pretty well for me.

I did it and it worked out fine. Of course I was in more of a position to take a risk than you might be depending on your situation.

No, you have your full time job for a long time. Temp job - they dont have to redo your contract. So with Temp Job you get lots of money, then no money, vs. with full time job you get small money for a long time. So, its the rabbit and the turtle moral.

Do you get benefits at this temp job?

Well, I got a call back from the HR manager saying that there was something wrong with the funding for the temp position plus she's going on vacation next week. So that gives me a few days to think about it. If offered, I think I'll take the job.

After a lot of changes with the company, i decided to accept the position today. Turns out it's a full time position now since they had to let someone go. But the compensation is slightly less. but I can't wait to start :)

so, instead of it being a temp position with more money, its actually a full time position with less money? or less than before, but still more than the old job?

still pays more than the old job. It's gonna pay less than what was initially offered.

I took a temp job once. Supposed to be 30 days to permanent. 6 months later I was still a temp and I found out when I was told to leave that the company had not paid any bills in 6 months. So I have kids, an uber stable job w/ good benefits, so a NO for me.

Why is that? I would think the pay would be the same hourly rate.

Well, it gets even more confusing. After giving my notice yesterday, my boss was really upset (although happy for me). She told her boss, and he told her to counter the offer that I received. They basically offered me the same pay and asked me to think about it. I thought about it for a day and decided to still leave because I'm still young and I can afford the change right now.

The reason is that most people who are experienced with what I do usually don't want to leave what they have for something that's not permanent. plus temp positions usually don't offer benefits so it's less cost to the employer.

Oh, you didn't mention benefits before. Are the benefits the same or better than what you have now? Which company has the better chance for advancement?

it's all about the benefits.

i don't think you get stock options, retirement, health/dental/vision, life ins, 401k, any of those goodies as a temp, do ya?

Benefits looks better at the new place. Plus I also get a 5% bonus. I'm not sure about the new company, but in the old one there wasn't that much room for advancement. And even if I did advance, the money wouldn't be that great until i'd hit middle to upper management. I guess that's why I'm willing to take that chance.
