Say you're a parent, and you have a 4yr old kid. You live in TX, and the grandparents want you to fly your kid, by him/herself, up to Canada (Montreal area). Would you allow this? Lets assume it will be a non stop flight, and it's the late 80's when you could actually see your party to the gate.

actually i wonder if airlines would have even allowed this back then... let's just assume they would let you do this.

yes or no... you get no third random option :p

Not a big deal if the kid is old enough, I'm thinking depending on the chil anywhere from 6 or 7 on up.

not at 4 years old, that is too young. i was hit by a car on my 4th birthday and when i look at those pics, i am still a baby.

maybe if the kid was atleast 6 it would be different. but definitely not 4

I used to fly alone between florida and NY constantly when I was very young.
The flight attendant's kept an eye on you and gave you a little pair of wings to make you feel cool.

Four IS FAR too young. I think 6 is the minimum age for most airlines. I would have never considered letting my daughter fly by herself on a plane when she was under 6. I flew by myself when I was...seven...the flight attendants just keep an eye on you and make sure you're not doing anything stupid. But, by that age, you're able to go to the bathroom on your own and follow instruction very well. Four is just too young

I flew from SoCal to the Phillippines which is a 17 hour flight with my 6 year old sister at the age of 5. The flight attendants really watch out for you as do the people at the airports.

Yea, I flew back and forth from Ny to Florida approx. 4-5 times a year for about 6 years.
Every flight had a transfer so I had to find my way to the next gate.
The airlines are usually very accomodating to this situation.

Depends on the kid. I know some 4 year olds who are pretty responsible (Relatively speaking) and some who are terrors. Seeing as its a non stop flight I wold entertain the possibility.

If under the care of a stewardess, yeah I'd be ok with it. My brother went on a trip when he was 9 or something. Older than 4, but it's not like a 9 year old can do crap anyway. He had help from airline employees.

Yeah it definitely depends on the kid. I know two 4 year olds. One would be fine, the other would get a free skydiving trip (without chute).

Does anyone remember the story where this family put an old asinine lady on an airplane. She was supposed to have a transfer in Atlanta, but airline literally lost her. Granny was unable to remember who she is and where she's going, so if left alone, she'd be completely lost. So, she vanished in Atlanta, and the family sued the airline. I can't recall the outcome of the story though.

i wouldn't put a kid under the age of 8 on his FIRST flight alone...maybe if he had taken a few flights and new what to expect then maybe but for a first flight parents really need to be there to calm the kid down if he gets fussy so he doesn't annoy the rest of the poeple on the plane and if its an especially long flight i'd be even more apprehensive if they are younger than 6...

I flew from San Jose to Las Vegas with my brother when I Was about 8 and he was about 5. We had no problems. My parents handed me over to the airline staff, and they watched us until my uncle picked us up at the gate. Some of you people are paranoid.
