would you put this website on your resume?

a small, local sports site that i run. i basically do all the administrative stuff for the site. i didn't code the site by hand, obviously, but is it worth mentioning? the site is a little edgy with some cursing in the forums. there are some articles, baseball power ranking articles, etc.

the job i'm applying for is an online company with a strong web presence, so i figured they might appreciate that i'm running the site. i suppose it's worth mentioning that i don't have too much tech work experience, so i'm looking for every little bit that'll help me.

thoughts?

It doesn't hurt to include everything that could be considered a plus in a resume. I think running a web site would look good on a resume for anything web related.

I think you answered your own question. If you don't have that much technical-related experience you can only benefit from it, in my opinion.

I'd add it.

it's supposed to be a play on words, "We The Fans of Detroit" is the tame version :)

i'm hoping it'll at least catch the attention of the recruiter/HR person, to stand out.....but i don't want it to hurt me.

i was thinking about adding it to my "skills" section, where i talk about website publishing knowledge.

would it be better to list that i run a site, the content, and responsibilities, leaving the URL out?

that's what i was thinking. at the very least, instead of saying "i did some of that in class", i can show them that i setup a real world, functional site.

well, i just read about Google opening up a branch nearby, so now i've got another application to send out :D i'm sure Google will be looking for the cream of the crop, but it won't hurt to apply.

considering google's business functions (looks like the local branch is focusing on AdWords....something i've actually used, lol), listing a website wouldn't hurt, right?

It usually doesn't hurt, but sometimes it can project a negative image if included improperly. In the few interviews I've conducted or sat in on, one or two people would list hobby sites or (even worse) college projects under work experience and it would come off negatively, as if they were trying to pass off a minor hobby as work experience or even as if they thought their project/site was an example of an enterprise calibur project. I think it would be very beneficial on your resume as long as you did not list it under actual work experience but under hobbies or skills.

But, I'm no expert on this, that's just how I have perceived things in the past.

gotcha. exactly what i was thinking. i don't want the recruiter to think "that's the best thing he's done?", which is why i wanted to list it under "skills" where i talk about website publishing experience.

Problem is you can't list it without linking it. If it's going to influence their opinion of you, they're going to want to look at it.

*smacks forehead* why didn't i think of that

Glad I could help. :)

You'll be fine listing it under skills as you said you will. Update and let us know how it turned out. Good Luck!

Depends on how much pride you have in your website. Yours has a professional layout. If you need stuff to put on, then by all means. I'm of the mind that your resume should not be more than a page, so don't bother if you have other stuff already.

I think it would be fine to list it the way F22 Raptor suggested and put it under Hobbies/Related Skills.
