would you pirate software

yes. i refuse to pay extra for something ive already bought.

oh yeah, another thing is that the dog did NOT chew up the serial number...right right right?
 
Considering that the CD is not the license for the software (in most cases), then it still wouldn't be pirating.
 
Well, I'm not sure if that's technically "pirating". Probably is, but that's for overpaid and undersexed lawyers to decide.

Back in the day companies used to send out free replacement CDs if you lost/broke one, and could prove to them that you owned it (receipt or something). These days you gotta pay through the nose for even that.

sadly this has happened to my BF2 disks a while back, I record all my cd keys in a text document in case something like that DOES happen.

I did just use a friends cd though, big dl if I had too, haha.

actually yea, my dog chewed up a copy of nero that i just got in the mail. it was OEM and the serial number was on the sleeve. i think i can make out about half of the serial code 🙁

calls for acquiring it other ways then, you paid for a license or were going to own it legally (paid for or not), so you deserve it.
 
if you bought the serial key, i wouldnt consider using someone else's cds as pirating - especially if you have a physical copy of the serial key.
 
what kind of crazy dogs do you have...

maybe next time you buy a dog, make sure its not a cd eating type.

because my dogs have never had a desire to eat cds.
 
I've done this many times with music or software or movies that I already own but are damaged or lost or I'm too lazy to rip to the PC.
 
I lost my original Jedi Knight CD2 back in like '98... Called em up and they sent me both discs for like the cost of shipping.

Doubt that happens anymore, though...

I read somewhere that Blizzard will replace bad CDs fro $10, which is supposedly the shipping charge for them, though $10 seems like a stretch unless they overnighted it or something.

I had to recently. A few months ago I marred the bottom of the first disk of "Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butchers Bay." (didn't know there was a DVD version, so I bought the 5 disk box. grrr.) I've been too poor to pay the $10 replacement disk, so I finally downloaded it. I've been wanting to replay it for months. Snapping guards necks, hiding their bodies, and sneaking around in a stolen uniform FTW.

you already paid for the license, so technically you might as well.
 
If the company is still in business I would send the box, the case and instructions, and the CD pieces back to them.
Most companies are very good about that sort of thing and will send you another copy.
But you must have the bits of CD leftover. Saying you lost it entirely wont normally get results.
