Every "Free Delivery" place I know gives a $1.50 discount if you pick up the order......seems delivery is not quite so "free".

I hope they realize tips ARE optional :)

If the pizza boys don't rake in the dough, they won't be delivering at all. The domino effect at work....

supposely, a pizza only cost about $1-2 to make... according to a friend of mine that works for dominoes....

damn thats cheap, its like soda, major profit, lol ;)

Of course it is. Think about it. Dough is like <25 cents, and your toppings range from 25-50 cents. Cooking it doesn't cost that much, and you're left with a high profit margin. i mean, how much pepperoni can you put on a pizza? Sell that for 10 bucks, and you're making a killing.

Your food cost claims are a little bit low.

At any rate... Of course, rent, utilities, insurance, payroll, taxes, business loans and other overhead costs are free, right?

A man with a single Dominos franchise is not a rich man, I promise you.

Agreed.

The dough may be 25 cents, but the cheese + two or three toppings can cost several dollars! (I check in food deliveries and sign the invoices at a pizza place up to two times a week. I see what everything costs.)

I'm working at Papa John's and we don't charge for delivery, nor is it built into the cost of the pizza, I don't think. Right now, you can get two large two-toppings for $16.80 (for example). This is the price whether you walk-in, call ahead and pick it up, or have it delivered. Unless they're charging the walk-in and pick-up customers for delivery, Papa John's delivery is free, just as advertised. My $.02, anyway.

And to answer the question posed, yes, I would probably pay the extra buck or whatever for delivery. When I order pizza and have it delivered, I'm on campus at school and my car is not convenient enough to go walk and get it, pick up the pizza, take it back to the room, and then park the car. When I'm at home and we order pizza, I just go pick it up.

No, the price of the pizza must cover every cost involved.

If a Papa Johns (with no inside seating) is anything like the place I work, 90-95% of sales are from delivery, so pick-ups have no chance of "subsidizing" the cost of delivering the pizza.

See, I work at a Papa Johns with inside seating, and half of our sales are from pickup :) While I think out pizzas are more expensive than all of the major chains, we have higher quality pizza. We don't have all of that greasy sh*t, we hand toss out dough, etc.
I just think that it's crazy to charge for delivery. Nothing but greedy store owners.

An extra Large Works pizza on hand tossed crust costs us about $1.50, yet we are charging almost 18 bucks for it. IIf that's not enough profit, I don't know what is

BTW - I'm about to move into a management position, so my pricing shoudl be correct (unlike my typing).
