Would you pay for a good school, or go to a decent school for free?

Bah I'm sitting here at work slaving away, and for what? To pay for damn college (though I do get decent financial aid). No loans, but my bank account is awfully close to zero at the end of every month after paying the month's tuition.
And why? I chose to go to a "good school" over other schools that I could have gone to for free.
If you were in my situation, would you have gone to the good school and paid or gone to a "worse" school and didn't have to pay?
I'm really beginning to think that I should have gone where I could have gone for free. Working this hard and then not having any money in my pocket isn't really worth it anymore.

I went to my second choice which was the in-state university. It was real nice not having any student loans, etc. when I graduated. Most of my friends are still paying and we're a few years out right now.

I don't fall into the category of "normal" but I'd opt for whichever I can get more out of - sometimes the good colleges are so caught up in politics or self-importance that it's hard to get anything worthwhile from the profs.

decent for free, if it's me. For my future kids, I'd probably opt for really good if I can (in the distant future) afford it.

Decent if its free of course. Your education is what you make it, and IMHO the prestige of the higher schools just isnt worth all the extra money. The only advantage you really get from these private schools in contacts in the industry that you can get nowhere else, but I assume most people dont take advantage of it.

depends on your plans for after school -
for me, i'm going to med school, so decent grades from a decent/good school will do me fine and no one will ever care where i went or how much i paid
if i was going to go into business directly after or try to get into somewhere like harvard law or wharton, then the undergrad would really matter, and its worth paying for it

Why would you say that?

good school for money.

using money as an excuse of not going to the best school possible is outrageous.

depends what you're comparing. a good school can be harvard or stanford and a decent school can be ucla or uc san diego. if the name matters then i would go with pay for good school. good luck in your decision.

I am going to a decent school for free right now. I am paying for school... I can make enough each summer to pay off the next year:p

Works out well enough for now. My college is ranked 13th in the nation.

Heh, its too late to reverse my choice, and I'm not gonna transfer.... I just hate having to spend ALL of my money on school
