I've always wondered about a dinner-movie theater, where they have tiered tables and chairs so you can watch the movie while your food is served.

If a woman says 7 p.m., that's 8 p.m. for us guys.

No way I am going to pay $35 for a movie plus more for drinks/food.

<<<-----almost always go to first show on Sunday, cheapest and don't have to deal with the crowd.

I notice this $35 does not guarantee people will STFU or the movie will be projected correctly or they won't play 45 minutes of commercials and trailers before a movie. No way.

The down stairs of the theater was a normal theater but you could by premium seating upstairs in the balcony level for $20, this allowed you to get free valet parking, free popcorn and pick your own oversized love seat as well.

They have a ritzy restaurant in there and even live music and a full bar.

For the big movies I'd pretty much always reserve way in advance to sit up there since there wasn't a bad seat in the place, everyone was very well behaved (had to be 21 or older to even get in) and even if you didn't show up until 2 mins before the movie started, it didn't matter since you picked out and reserved your seat in advance online.

Yup, I was just about to post about Muvico. They just opened one about 5 minutes from my house.

Even the normal tickets are more expensive then a typical multiplex, but it keeps the punk kids out at least. The place is kept really clean, the chairs are really nice, and it's actually a nice experience to go to the movies again.

No, I already don't go to the movies. When I was younger I'd go 1-2 times a week. Now I just for DVD.

I think that would be worth it especially for opening night for movies that will sell out. I hate having to get there at least an hour before the movie starts to get a decent seat. A ticket plus popcorn would be about $12, so an extra $8 would be worth it. I wouldn't do it for non-crowded movies though.

I see some pretty big flaws with this. Forget about chewing and other eating noises, what about the fact that someone is talking to a waiter during the movie? Basically they are actively encouraging people to speak during the movie!

Second, for that price you can eat at a fairly nice place AND buy a DVD.

Fuck that. For $6 I can visit the local independent movie theatre, bring my own gourmet food and drink beer. I can also be assured no one is going to kick my seats because douchebag kids and ghetto scum never patron that theatre.

$35 is a little steep & I have no interest in listening to people eating during a move ... as has already been stated, I'd much rather pay extra to be garanteed no loud-mouthed idiots, cell-phones or annoying little kids spoiling the experience.

why is everyone saying the food will be in the actual viewing area? The article says there will be fine dining in addition, not in combination, with the movie experience. All it says is 40 seats, in pairs, with a giant screen. I think it can work in certain areas. I'd be happy with the simple strictness of if your phone rings, you're out, if your kid squeaks, you're out. If they are consistent with that, maybe people will get the picture and stfu.

affluent audiences will pay three times the typical ticket price for plush, reclining seats equipped with call buttons for service, allowing them to order gourmet food, wine and cocktails from the theater's restaurant

I've been to a number of these type of theaters in the course of my work, people eat all kinds of stuff during the show (anything from a huge salad to a NY strip). These kinds of theaters are actually just restaurants with a cover charge that happen to show movies.

apparently my reading skills are lacking

I don't think seat kicking is exclusive to young urban folks. Middle-aged and elderly folks kick my seat at the local indie theater pretty regularly.

My sister took me to some fancy theater in LA. She paid something like $45 a ticket and all we got was cool little pre-show before the movie.

Alamo Drafthouse might not be as fancy, buts its only $10-15 a ticket and probably a better experience.

Is this "Office space" quote day or something? :)

I'm sure almost every thread I go into there's a variation of office space quotes.
