Would you move into a motel for an extra $1,700/month?

The motel is a tiny room with a crappy broadband connection that usually gets 10 Kb/s, and has a shared bathroom with the neighbor.

Would you do this for an extra $1,700 a month?

Let's say this motel is 2 miles from your work place.

I ask because I'm sort of in this situation. It's a long story, but I have a one year government contract, and for some reason I get per diem and my room payed for if I live in lodging. It really sucks to live here, but I'm getting payed very well. Sometimes I want to move out though.

Would you do this?

Edit: The $1,700 is non-taxable, and Xbox-live does not work.

Most of the people stay for about a week. So it's constantly new room mates. They usually lock my door, so I have to ask them to unlock it, or call the front desk if they're not there.

I've peed in the sink a couple times.

It depends. Do it for a year and save up the money if you have not ties.

I wouldn't do it. I've lived out of hotels plenty of times with much nicer accomodations, but I always had home to come back to. It wears out your soul really quickly.

so your per diem is ~$100 a day? Guessing that you're paying around $40 for the current room you're sleeping in. And your going with the cheapest motel room possible so you can pocket the rest right? Screw it spen another $10 a day and get a better room.

How old are you? If you're young then just suck it up and make some money, as long as you save and not blow it on stupid crap.

The hard part is when you have to not have that kind of money. Few can give it up, all that do believe it is the best move they ever made.

The government will always try to make sure you're getting screwed one way or another. Apparently, one of these methods involves enticing contractors to live in shady motels with shared bathrooms, increasing the odds of actually getting raped up the ass.

I've pretty much lived in a hotel for a few years. In my case, I was lucky enough to stay in some very nice hotels, but I still wouldn't do it if I had another choice. If you have friends that stay there, then you can have a lot of fun; however, if you're going to be alone, I would definitely seek shelter elsewhere.
