For what it's worth in the genus/species debate -
I just spent 2 days with a group of high school students. We were collecting eggs and sperm from fish that were a cross between Arctic Char and Brook Trout. Now, since they're both in the same genus, but different species, their offspring should be sterile. You can tell that to their great great grandtroutlings in a few weeks. The cross isn't as fertile as either of the original two species.
