Highly doubtful. It's a rural podunk Iowa town. My guess would be $500 a year...tops.

Extra space = indoor swimming pool!

As far as living there and the zoning, you could live in part of it and use the rest for some kind of business. That would probably circumvent the zoning laws.

Because of the size, you could have just about ANY kinda business you wanted.

Internet café.
Self service auto shop.
Self service auto PAINT shop.

Or maybe you could subdivide and rent out the extra space. (several apartments)

UPDATE: well, my suspicion that the building was in terrible condition was correct. The listing realtor told me that there were holes in the roof, cracks in the bricks and structural beams, asbestos, mold, ect.

Oh well! it was a fun idea while it lasted

Bummer dude!

Indeed. That church would have made one awesome house. Now I want to see if I can find anything like that locally and do the same. :)

it's not so much about money as it is time. I was hoping it was structurally sound and I could customize the interior and create a living space. It sounds like there is just too much wrong to bother, I guess. I'll probably still give it a walk through, for curiousity's sake
