Would you live in a place that cannot have broadband?

When shopping for a house, we wondered what we would do if we found a perfect house except that the neighborhood does not have cable or DSL internet access. I think we would have nixed such a house--being the internet junkies that we are!

What about you? Would you buy/rent an otherwise perfect residence that will not have cable or DSL access in the foreseeable future?

JEBUS: You guys are FAST! Must be broadband users :p

There are plenty of places you can get cable TV but not cable internet.

We were shopping for apartments earlier this year, and found the perfect one. Great location, price, size...it had everything. Except cable internet. The apartment complex had an exclusive contract with our phone company Qwest (who I HATE anyway), and only offered DSL. I wasn't about to switch from my 2.8M that I pay $35/month, for 640k for $32/month. They offer 1M for $88/month. So we turned them down just for that. God I hate DSL!

Hahah.....my parents bought a house here in the sticks and I had to live without broadband for two freakin years. I was calling roadrunner and Bellsouth ADSL until they finally brought it out here. TWO FREAKING YEARS OF DIAL-UP! Plus, the phone lines here are crap! You could only connect at 26,400 bps! :Q

I wish we had archives of the old board. I remember getting DSL in '98, and bragging about it here. Everyone was so jealous because most people were using dial up. How the times have changed in 5 years.

I actually did check several ISPs to see if broadband service (both cable and DSL) was available when I was searching for a house. Fortunately, all the houses that were candidates were in the service area.

the way it was phrased "cannot have broadband" was that no cable could be laid into the ground...how could you get cable t.v. if no wires are able to be laid down, for internet or t.v.

or maybe i'm just an idiot.

You bet I would!!! But that's a big tradeoff. We're talking private remote island with a yacht full of bikini babes here. Or a Swiss chalet in the Alps. Or a desert hideout in Arizona full of illegal machine guns and lots of small desert critters for 'target practice'...

There is no place that it is physically impossible to run a cable to.
