That's one thing that does suck is lot of these charities take a bunch of money for themselves. It's hard to tell which ones do and which ones don't. I wonder if there's a list somewhere that is reliable.

I tell them no thank you, and I really don't care to be shook down and for them to tell manager I said that.

I say no thank you.

Even when they're doing the "round up for charity" thing and only asking for 5 cents.

I don't donate to charities based upon aggressive marketing.

If I'm donating cash, I'd prefer 100% of it goes to the Shriners. I don't care that they are masons or whatever. I do care that their Childrens hospitals help kids who otherwise may not get the help they need.

I always say no since I donate to the charities I want on my own time. The funniest one is in the liquor store when they ask if I want to give a dollar to dry grad. Kind of an odd place to solicit donations for a dry party. :hmm:

I usually just say no. but the local Karn's really fucked me over* earlier this year. They had several handicapped kids at the store helping bag groceries and stuff and then they asked if I wanted to donate to the special Olympics. I was like "fuck! i can't not donate now"*

*said in jest

I used to get pissed when stores would ask for my zip code. Like Best Buy. "Can I please have your zip code?"
Me: sure, it's one, two, three, four, five.
Them: Puzzled look

Nope. If companies want to boost their PR by donating to charities that's fine but they can use their own money.

"No."

Then they glare at my beer and steak/lobster purchase.

Bastards.

In reality, I say, "No thanks," when they ask. But, if there's a charity bucket there, I will drop my coin change in it. Probably because they didn't ask.

Honestly, I only donate $1 if they offer coupon books like Wendy's does.

I prefer to give bigger donations where I get a receipt, so I can deduct it on my taxes.

I thought you could not write off the ones where someone else handles it like this. i.e. the store gets the write off not you?

Could have swore this came up somewhere.

I never looked at it this way, but that's probably exactly what these stores are doing. To them it's free PR since general public will think it's their money they used. Like when you hear "Walmart donated over 10 million to local charities this year" it was actually one of these programs where you donate a dollar.

Hell no. I have half a mind to reach in to the Salvation Army pot when leaving the store as it is. Freakin' Liberals always want themselves a free lunch.
